Yeah basically if you're not prepared to have your car damaged or destroyed, don't race it. Become a track day addict :D

turning up for a lot of fun. just go to all the days you can, get into the private ones like playday on track, and the ones chelles sometimes organises, they're much better than the test and tune days as you tend to get more track time + its a bit more social (you'll get chatting with the guys in the pit next to you, have a little bit of rivalry going on)

and have little "unoffical" races as well with people that you know, talk to them in pits, and just happen to be out on the track at the same time, haha. yeah hunt, just stick with trackdays, thats what i'll be doing with the jz, it's too expensive to get into full blown class racing, both with upkeep of the car, entry fees, repair costs (it's bound to happen), etc. also with most trackdays like chelles organises, you don't need a rollcage unless you want to take others with you.

Even on trackdays, all those three in bold apply. I know I've seen a few cars hit the walls pretty hard in a trackday, and probably more than a few writeoffs. Upkeep on the car is just as important, brake pads fluids blah blah blah etc etc. I think it would be wrong to attend trackdays with the idea that you cant damage your car, your bound to hit a wall eventually, and its still gonna cost you a pocket, coz insurance isnt gonna help ya on a track.

you can get insurance for the track - just gotta tell them exactly when you will be going and it has to be an official event - so I'm told.....

but anyway - the point is, generally you're less likely to bin it on a test/open day, as you wont have other car's around you pressuring you.....

But maybe not - I'm just a n00b hehe

If you're careful on a trackday and let people pass that are going faster, then it should be fairly car safe.
That said, i've been hit by two overly agressive drivers that forgot what day they were driving at... luckily no real damage to my car though.

Look out for tards.

I've been to a few of Chelles's days and there the closest thing I've come across to legalised street racing and there a Sh*t-load of fun especially when you got someone the same speed as you.

I've been doing the Dual-car sprint,private track-day,open-day scenario for about 8-9 years now and I reckon its a good level because to go to the next level costs a bit more commitment and alot more $$$$ but with the above scenario's you can still go out and have some fun and go fast.

Exactly the reason to use a common chassis! Yay for ae92 swapability (is that even a word?)

Thats why I decided to build up my ae92 gtz instead of my old ae86. Worst case scenario I can put everything into a new shell (trueno, levin, hatchback, wagon etc). Only loss would be the cage once I have one.

Targa is heaps, I think entry fees are a couple a grand....

+ lots of fuel, and your crew.

Events like northern sport car club and auckland sports car club is pretty cheap to join. Racing isnt that $ either. And people racing know they are racing so have some sort of knowledge on how to race. Unlike track days you get heaps of beginners who have no idea what they are doing and no experience with cars around them.

If your scared of stacking your car you shouldnt even go out on a race track. No matter what event. IMO

I'm scared of crashing my car - of course every one is - but I'm not scared to go full tit and fang it round a track at over 200kmph :twisted: :twisted:

I think you're all right - stick to track/open days and enter some dual car sprints etc

It's not a carrier I think I'll be able to persure - getting on a bit now at the rip old age of 25 - should've started younger haha

Around $10k minimum. You're looking somewhere in the $3-$4k entry fee, plus six control tyres at about $300ish each. Meals, accomodation for you and service crew, fuel for you and service crew.

I am sure some of the guys here have done Targa, so they might be able to give you a breakdown of their figures.

The most common figure I ever heard for Targa was that the week cost around $15k. However, it is an entire week of driving, so don't expect it to be cheap :lol:

I cant afford to crash it on the roads either. I only have 3rd party, not even fire and theft. Does that mean I shouldn't drive it on the roads too haha.

If I could afford to repair the crashed car, I could afford to put upgrades on it, and so on and so forth...... :P

exactly why i dropped my KP60 in favour of a celica, then dropped the celica in favour of a ae100 corolla. Body panels being readily available for cheap is a pre-requisit for a club car, cause its not a matter of IF, its a matter of WHEN you snot it

Do you mean 6 sets, or is 6 the minimum you're required to get?

Six tyres total, not six sets of tyres.

I haven't looked at the regs lately, but a few years back you used to get pinged huge amounts of time for each tyre over six that you used.

This was to stop people from running the softest of the control formula tyres, and gaining a technical advantage by using a new set of tyres every service stop.
