Exhaust for my RX7

Postby cogent » Mon Nov 03, 2008 10:46 am

Ok, I've got a FD3S RX7 which some of you will have seen at the megameet autocross (the cool guys that went). Its a pretty nice setup, im happy with it, except for one niggling thing. The muffler is $&#$% retarded. JDMtarded even.

It starts out pretty G with a 3" Fujitsu Engineering (FEED) downpipe from the turbos, passes through into the stock Cat Convertor (to avoid severe boostu) and then goes to a 3" HKS Super Dragger Catback. The muffler is $&#$% gigantic. Its almost comical. You know that NAC advert with the photoshopped muffler that takes up like 1/3 of the back of the GTR? Thats mine IRL.

Image

The tip alone is 5" OD, and the barrel is like 8" or something retarded.

I want something new thats gonna look good and not overly large. The biggest problem, is because this muffler is so huge, and my car is lowered with HKS suspension, the muffler scrapes on everything. Going down a parking building ramp? scrappppppe. Speed humps? Bump - Bump - Scrape!

So TS bro's, photoshop up some new mufflers for me. Something small, high quality and will stand the rotary heat without droning like the mad vtaks. If you can link to where to buy the muffler too that would be mad respekx.

cheers

stick a "ultra tuff mufflers" 3 inch in, 3 inch out "Rotary muffler" on it.

Most of the race cars run them, stainless packed, mild steel. Quietens them down a fair bit too. I used just 1 of these mufflers on my 13BT, heaps quiet enough for road useage, even with a semi BP breathing thru a P trim T04.

Any pics? I saw that custom muffler that guys dad had made for his S15 (thread in multimedia) which looked pretty low key and nice.

I want something sporty, nice sounding, but compact packaging and 'not boring' looking.

Cole's Dad (his S15 in multimedia) is a bit of a wizz with fabrication. You could PM cole (slighty_looney) and see about getting a price on a custom muffler. He could then build it to specific sizes and shape and pack it with the right material to keep it quiet

haha, cheers guys for all the nice comments. Owning a late model RX7 was actually a dream of mine and im really happy to have attained it. Next target: Ultima GTR, built by me!

Pity I cant find any info about those real tuff mufflers, might have to design some real gangsta race track looking one with a 3" turned down tip 8)
