I havn't had my SW20 MR2 for very long, a few months. Only ever got it to oversteer when I went way too fast through a tightening corner with too much right foot. That was me being silly.

When it oversteers on gravel it's not going to 'snap' unless you force it to.

Good handling cars, just need to change the way you drive them to other cars. That said, going from FWD to RWD needs the same thing.

Agreed, the only time my AW11 ever oversteered was on increasingly tight corners, it certainly wasn't 'snap' oversteer though.

Then and when I wanted it to :P

My 1984 MR2 oversteered like a son of a bitch. The 1988 is an absolute pussycat by comparison. I prefer the 84 on the track, but the 88 in sprints etc where there are solid things to spin into.

Having read the Jekyll and Hyde link, I agree with the writer. On the track, I can get my AW to oversteer anytime I want it to, simply by late braking into a corner and turning while at the same time. It all feels under control until about 2/3's of the way through the corner when the oversteer starts due to weight transfer. Still managable and controllable and useful if there is someone trying to get past you. :twisted:

Bringing this topic back up as I'm starting to look seriously at Mr2s now, both aw's and sw's. If a car has targa roofs, can you not run them on a track day at all without a cage? Not a competitive racing day, just a bring your road car to the track type day? Ideally a hard top I would prefer, but theres a few targas up for sale that look quite nice, and relatively cheap as well.

i've raced my targa top sw20 (no cage) at multiple drag/track/test days and no one batted an eye lid

I sold a targa top, because I knew that I wanted to eventually enter the car into a national race series, and build a full cage. If you just want to do track days, you don’t need a cage
