Car Audio N00b

Postby Eddy1612 » Wed Nov 05, 2008 7:10 pm

OK so i have never installed anything great in terms of stereos in any of my cars ever so i am venturing into a new area here.

ok first things first, what i have bought so far:
my sub:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =185262762
not too much power, it's only an MR2.
my speakers:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =183934891
i guess that means 100watt RMS each?

and my head decks, own both of them dont know which to put in the car:
http://www.pioneernz.co.nz/default.asp? ... DEHP4050UB
http://panasonic.com.au/products/detail ... ectID=3336

So the last thing left to do is decide on wiring and an AMP.

Thats where you guys come in.
What would you guys recommend.

I am yet to fuly understand all the numbers etc
I know not to buy Fusion, SOny and cheap sh*t

Will be installed in a MR2

For the speakers, 175W(RMS) is what they can run at according to the auction.

Depends if you want to run 1 amp or 2 I guess. If one amp you could buy a 4 channel amp, run the speakers of 2 of the channels and bridge the remaining 2 channels to run the sub.

I'm sure someone more experienced will post soon anyway, but thats how I had mine setup amp wise

ive never been able to fault it, and its al ive ever used. people seem to hate on it so bad, but ive never had a problem. everythings got a warranty, im pretty sure sony even replace your subs if you blow them (that may be wrong though) in saying that my next sub will probably be soundstream, but for value for money, i personally would recomend sony

Sony is pretty shit. The whole range.

Fusion are ok if you go after the higher range, their cheap subs don't last too long...

I'd say go after the first headunit you've linked, the Pioneer.

Value for money, i'd be hunting for deals on NZICE, usually a few good items come up for decent prices. I'd much rather spend an extra 100 if it meant I had some quality such as DLS or Kicker etc.

If its going in a MR2 do you have the standard sub behind the passenger seat? think you can fit an 8 in there with work

If you are interested in doing some reading on the basics of car audio etc. (Might make purchasing a bit easier)

http://www.bcae1.com/

There is a lot of reading involved but I dare say you'd come out better off.

I run an all Sony system..

Sony mp3 head unit, sony 12cm fronts, sony 6x9 rears, 2x sony 12" subs, sony amp...

no issue with any of it, been running the same system since abotu 2 weeks after i got the car about ~2 years ago.

Lol Deecee alright :) Thought youd like to make some sales though?

First up Eddy, how much do you have to spend? And what kind of music will you be listening to on a daily basis?

Are you after a loud boom system, or a nice sounding system, or a combination of both?

The pioneer h/u you have is fine, but i would consider different sub and speakers depending on your budget and music taste.

The problem is i listen to everything from rock to electronic dance music, but im not much of a rap fan.

Im not looking for a thumping system, i just want something with good quality and clarity with a bit of punch behind it.

Thanks

maybe ill just flick off the pana and start again?

Well no, it has nothing to do with that. The Pioneer just has better features and is much more flexible for a multi speaker system.

How much do you want to spend eddy?

Totally agree with that (in regards to the 2 headys in question).

Those boschmans are terrible too, cousin had some in his cynos poobox and they sounded absolutely horrible. If you want really good components that aren't tooooo expensive go for alpine type r's ... and take a geez at DLS, infinity kappa, rainbow ... i've heard good things.

That's my 2 cents anyway ..

Same here listen to metal like Emperor and Cyber/Industral like Angelspit, and my complete Sony system works good. I've been using all Sony stuff for almost 4 years now and never had a problem with it. For value for money it's hard to beat.
Don't need too much in the way of sounds in an MR2 either, it's only a small car. Only thing I would change with my setup would be to run my 6X9s off an amp.
