while surf lifesaving and coaching rowing are very good things to be doing in terms of giving back to the community and fitness etc, it is your choice to do them and not work to get money. same goes for modding cars.

I think that the fact is that New Zealand is getting tired of this government, and wants a change.

yeah I agree,
the government needs to be changed, as in: the fire all $&#$% and restructure the bloody place so it will require 1/10th of the employees to run it. here, that is where lost billions went.

I think you'll find that the desire is not so much to vote a National-led government in.. but a labour led government out... i.e. people wnat a change. The fact that the change is probably as bad, if not worse than, current, is another can of worms in itself.

Sadly I have to be a little careful posting my political views on public fora, or i'd let loose, especially on the military aspect (i've been a military enthusiast for years). But I found some of jonno*'s posts rediculous in that regard.

All I can say guys is 'read between the lines'. Sadly there are aspects of all the parties that I simply don't agree with, and it's going to likely come down to a 'lesser of the evils' vote. I'm still watching party policy announcements and doing my research. In the end the party that wins will be the party that convinces the country that it is the 'least bad'. heh.

But right now, if I knew nothing of the past and was only introduced to what I see in campaigns and adverts at the moment, I'd still be voting National.
These ads you see on TV by Labour are pretty apauling really. It makes me feel as if Labour's only goal is to make National look bad!
This isn't primary school anymore. Enough finger pointing. Use your money to advertise what you're going to do to make a difference to the country! Not to get into a slinging of the proverbial!


Another thing that irks me with the Labour ads, is that the slogan is "This one's about trust".
Now, I recall a few months back, we were all told that the government had something like an 8 billion dollar surplus.
A few weeks ago (from what I recall), we were told that the figure is actually around 1 billion!
Of course, there has been spending such as 2 billion on a rail system in Auckland, but where has the other 5 billion gone?? Is that what we call trust?

Still voting ACT party vote. Government needs some backbone, but voting for National in my electorate (Christchurch Central) to keep Brendon Burns out of office, hes too far down the party list to make it but has a possibility of the electorate seat

None of them are offering anything that makes a lick of difference to my life. I'm still off overseas to pursue post grad education and a good career. I love NZ, but I'm sick of the fact all my tax dollars seem go to help people who can't afford their children, if you can't afford to have children don't breed, especially since the world is so overpopulated as it is.

Welcome to MMP. He has a clear majority with National + ACT + United Future but I dare say he'll want some support from the Maori Party as well, which will help him establish sufficient majority that it may last into a second term or beyond.

anyway i dont really see how theres a relation between number of parties in a coalition and number of bureaucrats
