New exhaust for 5a-fe

Postby headshotnz » Wed Nov 12, 2008 6:59 pm

Hey guys, i have a sprinter LX lmited it has a 5a-fe engine, which is well crap lolz.

Any way, I have put a fart exhaust on the back :P RPS carbon Fibre if any one is interested...

Any ways, its like 1.5 inch down the moddle :( like its well tiny.

If i was to get 20v 4a-ge headers plus the exhaust and put my "fart exhaust" on, will i notice an increase in tourqe or loudness of my exhaust?

Hopefully this all makes sense, and i posted in the correct area, im new hear :D

Cheers guys

I'll take a stab here and say it will sound rubbish and won't help your torque or power at all if you do the 20v idea  It will most likely get louder though, but will sound like poooooooooos. Don't do it

1.5" should be perfectly fine for a 1500cc 'economy engine'. A fart cannon will not help anything. If anything I would have just got a bling bling muffler tip to slip over your factory muffler tip.

No amount of rice mufflers is going to make it a performance car

Unfortunately for your plans for the car I would have to agree with the above, a muffler tip is the best idea if you want to dress your car up a bit. If you want to make a performance machine I will take a stab here and say you need to change the engine/car.

I'v alreday got the "fart cannon" on there, and it sounds really nice, compared to what they normally sound like.

I just thought a 2.5" pipe down the middle (or whatever the 20v one is) with the 20v headers on would do a little bit..

I relaise its not fast, but thought it would atleast do some thing.

If i was making it go fast i would put a 20v in it....

I think the 20V pipes are only 2"? If that. I don't think you would notice any difference with that change in exhaust, not by the seat of your pants anyway.

2.5"??? Far that's huge.. I had that on my 2.5L Skyline.

leave it stock standard. nothing worse than some di*k with a loud exhaust on a shit box engine like that

20v's actually go much better with a decent 2" exhaust compared to a 2.5"

stock 20valves are 2.25"? i thought

but yeah imo leave it standard, not worth the hassle/cost/extra noise
the gains would be hardly noticeable i would think

I think they're 2" but most people put a 2.25" on for small gains in the 20v's

Don't do it, it'll be more hassle than its worth, unless you get everything for free & do it all yourself, and even then it will just be a loud slowish car.

Save your $$$ for a better car that you can do mods to, or for upgrading the engine to a better one (hint don't choose the 20v)

between the headers (which ill also get stock 20v headers) and my r.p.s muffler.

Well fair enough, you asked your question. People gave good answers on why not to do it. All based on prior knowledge and trying to keep you out of trouble with the authorities and giving no problems come WOF time.
Yet, once the answers were given you kept asking, like you want approval to do it or something....
At the end of the day, it's your car, do what you like with.
No point calling someone a wanker because they give their own thoughts on the question at hand.
It is a open forum after all.

Follow your own statement here, as you say theres no need to be a wanker

Fitting an exhaust to your car that will do nothing for performance, but only create an annoying noise is acting like the above. We have tried our best to guide you as to whats a waste of time and money, but if you choose to do it anyway thats perfectly fine. But no point asking a question in the first place if you will ignore all the advice.

That exhaust you linked is for a setup with 2 mufflers, is that your plan or?
