Welsh/frost plugs replacement glue

OK so im wanting to replace my welsh plugs on my block. What glue/sealant do i use and where do i get it......also im wanting to paint the block do i heat the block up before i paint it if so how and with what or just paint it?

Just paint it with the engine paint, high temp stuff. As long as the block is clean and dry you shouldn't have issues.

As for the frost plugs, just a little bit of ordinary sealant or a bit of loctite type stuff is fine. The plugs are soft enough that they should seal properly with nothing on anyway

i use a thin smear of loctite 518 or retaining compound as it sets hard

i wouldnt use a silicone anywere but on the sump

get some shelac for the welsh plugs, best stuff for it.

Can also drill & tap for some small capscrews/bolts to hold the welch/frost plugs in or else put them in & then use a centre/dot punch to just peen the ends of the holes over in a few spots to hold them in.
