2ZZ GE Air Intake plus other things...

Hey there fellow toyspeeders!

So I just got my Fielder some nice new wheels (Cheers Tsoob!) Love your work!!

I'm wanting a Cold air intake next, Does anyone have any ideas/places to go? I replaced the factory filter with a Trust one but I dunno... Surely there is something else out there... bit of piping to get colder air?? I dunno...

What other mods would people recommend I do to my 2ZZ GE? Other than forced induction that is cos my budget doesn't quite stretch that far! Yet...

Exhaust maybe? I dunno...

TRD USA made a CAI for the Matrix of which we sold dozens & dozens to Aussie and NZ 2ZZGE owners.
I'm not sure whether the Toyota guys still get these in.

The TRD filters that came in the kit were renowned to be not that great and many people replaced them with K&N or others.

There are many other manufacturers of CAI's. A quick google will bring them up. Most probably perform similarly.

The Aussies had the Sportivo as a new car and there were some issues that came to light really quickly.

Common, relatively inexpensive mods were, CAI, TRD exhaust manifold & light flywheel & good clutch.

We had many comments from owners who had done only these things and who reported good improvements in performance.

your first mod would be to pull the 2zz out and swap it with my superior 1zz

yep a good mod, the issue with the TRD filter wasnt really quality, i sold a few and ppl loved them, it was it doesnt fit vehicles with foglamps
which 99.9% of 2zzge cars in nz have!
so you have to use a smaller K&N filter

also there can be a little bit of tweaking to fit it.
it fits fine, but its not a 5 min job

well find a friendly TRD keen toyota dealer and ask them to call sven at TNZ and ask about the kit from the USA

The filter issue was indeed about quality.
The Aussie's had dyno tests with a range of filters and the TRD item
didn't fare well.
For them it was all about flow.

Ported headers, Lightweight flywheel, 2.5 Inch cat back, CAI (Injen is the best), Hondata gasket

Not much more you can do without spening lots

I can port headers for whoever is interested

the CAI puts the filter down the bottom of the bumper.
with the TRD filter that comes with it the end of the filter is by where the foglamps go, hence the fitment issues for certain vehicles
