Amything new to look for in alarm tech?

Hi all

Been a while since I had an alarm installed (4 years) so what's the latest and greatest?

GPS systems affordable yet? Or radio pagers still the reasonably priced option?

Dynatron still pretty decent? etc?

i like mongoose. got a new m30 wich is good if you want good features for small price, they do sms pagers, maybe a new system too but i cant remember, read the info onit a couple of months ago. i r\ate the m60b, thats what ill be putting in when i need one

Mongoose are pretty decent alarms, I have an M60 and M80 in my cars and no issues yet! (and I even installed the M60 myself!)
AVS are pretty well specced though, they do a GPS add on from memory, still around $1500-2k worth though.

Both my cars have Mongoose alarms, no problems at all with them, decent as.

M80G in my GT4 and some old series alarm in the ST184. Also got a car here with a AVS alarm, also seems to do the job fairly well.

avs seems to be quite popular, although i have seen their immobiliser relays pack out on more than one car

No problems with my dynatron nearly 5 years on and same remote batteries

So my preference would be Dynatron.

I hate the M80... It's whats in the B2200.. I hate how they auto arm after like 20 seconds... And the super bright LED, yuck.

I've got a Auto Watch in the Forester, awesome!!! Makes a cool beep haha. Imobilises after 40 seconds, turbo timer built in, etc.

Oh yeah, thats one thing that does irk me about the Mongoose alarms, the 30 second auto arm Not really a huge thing I guess, but its something to consider.

I think that's a feature on all 5 star alarms these days, They have to have it to get the rating, Both my alarms immobilize after 30seconds, If I un-arm it and dont open a door after about 2 minutes it locks again as well

Next question - can people recommend a good installer? One who will hid the brain in a non standard location, and offer other custom options if required? Cheers

Yeah its part of 4 star standard.

5 star just adds on battery backup.

I know with the newer dynatrons 7000 series, theres a transponder in the remote that disarms the alarm automatically if you have the keys near the ignition. Would be a good feature.

I read "auto arm" to mean the alarm switches itself back on, which WOULD suck!

my work does installations (Automasters), you can program the mongooses and dynatrons to not auto arm again if thats what you want, as well as arm delay , anti hijack, whole buncha stuff. and yea, some dynatrons sense when the key is near, never have to push the button when the ignition on again. im sure some mongooses do it too

I've got a Dynatron with the transponder remote, damn cool. Don't even think about the alarm, just treat it like any old keyless entry, get in and go. Honestly, would definitely pay more for that feature.

Get your alarm installed by somebody decent, I went to rapidradio and couldn't be happier. I've heard many a horror story about alarms with an otherwise great rep because they were installed by a monkey.

I've had a dynatron 7600 before, and I do rate it.

Tell him Cliff aka ARSEY reccomended him, He specalieses in installation of AVS but will install what you want, hes done a fantastic job of installation in my car along with installing some extra gear and rewiring it all for $450 parts and labour for a 5 star AVS.

When the hardware failed he was back within 4 days to replacing totally free of charge.

ive got a Dynatron which was in the Caldina when i got it about 4 years ago - doesnt seem too bad, mind you im pretty sure i need new batteries in the remote as sometimes (read: most of the time) i have to hold the remote to my head to get it to work (which sucks when theres a fire call and im in a big hurry)

where the hell do you buy the remote batteries from?
they are smaller than AAAA's, and i cant remember the voltage off the top of my head.

mind you the actual remote cases are pretty shabby themselves, i wonder if you can easily and reasonable economically replace the whole remote and have it programmed up to the alarm???
