SX80 Cresta diff questions

Postby mugen » Sun Nov 30, 2008 10:38 pm

had a search but couldnt really find what i wanted to know

im a nissan man myself but my mate has a 91 toyota cresta SX80 with a 4sfe and manual box. sounds like he's broken an axle in his diff. its got a live rear axle in it (g series?). havent pulled it apart yet but im guessing its broken a spline or something. is this a common fault with them?

does anyone know much about these? are there any other diffs / axles that bolt up to the cresta? has anyone got any parts for it? really need to get the car going again.

would also like to look into getting an LSD for it as its a single spinner in there atm.

Cheers for any help

Also tell your mate that for future skids he needs a 3SGE.

Can't help with diffs, but 3sge will bolt in (and need wiring).

yeah it is the small 7.1" diff. tiny little axles, same as on my 1989 mark 11 lx80 diesel( E302 code, meaning yours is a 3.9 ratio, and mine was 3.7) sorry, i binned my axles. i engineered a hilux/ hiace diff housing to replace it. much much bigger.

can anyone tell me is it possible to bolt the whole F series diff from a supra up to the sx80 chassis? the e series diff in there at the moment has a spring over shock setup with a single bolt at the bottom, which is different to the liteace ones which has the spring that sits directly onto the axle housing.
