4AGE Black Top Into A AE101

Post by Jakey »

Hey
Just wondering how hard it is to fit a black top 20 valve engine into a 1993 ae101 levin. It had a silver top in it.
What sort of wiring needs to be done etc,is it worth it?

How much can you do yourself?

If you can get a cheap blacktop and do all the work yourself, then maybe worthwhile.

Otherwise i'd say not worth the effort.

yeah I will do all the work myself and can get one cheap,
From what I now the engine all bolts up etc,its just the wiring part I want to know, cose if there gonna be lotsa wiring then I wont do it,but if there just a few little wiring mods I got to do then I'll do it.
Will run the 5 speed gearbox from the silvertop

Not really worth it IMO.

The blacktop is easier to break and has a negligable power increase.

the wiring is a night mare and its been proven more power on blacktop with silvertop loom and ECU

Easier to break? sure if you race around a track abusing the crap out of both engines the silvertop will last longer. Street use and both engines will last forever if well serviced.

How many silvertops have you compared to blacktops? The power difference is usually shown in 1/4 mile times. low 15s for blacktop, high 15s/low 16s for silvertops. (average times given)

Going by Toyotas power figures is not accurate as the blacktop is MUCH closer to claimed power than silvertop is.

rebuilding your current motor will net far more power than any used blacktop you're likely to find.

but "stock" just isn't cool ya know.
meh.....
