Think it has to be M6 or higher, with metal brackets.

Got to have a quick release metal fastenings/straps, or material of equivalent strength, secured to the structure of the vehicle by a minimum of two 6mm bolts with panel washers and lock nuts.

mount it across the car, not along it. ideally tucked in front of seat. the last thing you want is a lengthways mounted extinguisher breaking both your ankles in a frontal impact.

just remember that 2kg of powder is the MINIMUM requirement.

i run 2kg in front of drivers seat as well as 1kg on passengers side. the current PC extinguishers are quite ineffective, twas a bad day when BCF units were outlawed, as they were very capable at putting fires out, unlike the powder ones!!

Don't just use cable ties like I have seen by one seasoned rally campaigner at scrutineering. He even had the cheek to ask "oh, is it ok if I just run it like that today".

FFS.

HSV with woodworking screws straight into the floor "But I've been running at Pukekohe car club events like this for two years and nobody has ever pulled me up before"

Rivets, self tappers, cable ties ... I've seen it all.

I've seen the aftermath of Mark Harrison's KE30 when he crashed it at a track day...
2 fire extinguishers with plastic brackets - both brackets broke and the extinguishers bounced around the cabin putting dents in things!
I mount my extinguishers with the base pointing forwards so the bracket will hold it without relying on the metal clip in a big frontal (tested by me at Taupo a couple of years ago!)

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Yes. Large metal tubes that are heavy, and have pointy bits at one end of them are often considered to be a bad thing to have travelling at high speed around a cabin in the event of a big crash :)

One of the more interesting ones was a Porsche 944 that munted the wall over "the mountain" at Pukekohe. The battery was in the factory mounting point in the cabin. It exited via the windscreen.
