Crank harmonics

Postby fxgt race » Mon Dec 08, 2008 6:22 pm

Last race at mainfield the alternater bolt came out at the bottom, the car still ran but with the alternater swinging around as the belt didn't come off it pulled the crank wheel out of balance,it split the keyway on the pulley causing it to wobble a lot and at 8800rpm has either bent the end of the crank or damaged the bearing or ovaled the end of the crank.I have replaced every thing with other pulleys and the bolt and the washer behind the pulley. It still wobbles slightly.

Will running it like this for our taupo round which is on the 3 of jan cause a serious fail of the crank and major damage to my engine

Do I get the spare crank and drop it off to the engine builders to put it in to be safe

The bolt in the crank pulley probably wasn't tightened properly, came loose, damaged the keyway, vibration made the alternator bolt come out (also loose).
