Cliff - the surface area might be the same, but the calipers are expecting to squeeze on something 32mm thick, but are actually having to bite onto something 24mm thick...I'd just be worried that once your pads are worn, they'll end up pushing the pistons out.
The centre hole needs to be reasonably close, but you ought to be able to make up some sort of 3mm spacer to fix that.

We have discussed the piston falling out problem, we dont really see it as too much of a issue as long as he keeps an eye on pad level (easy enough to carry a spare set in the car, only takes 5 mins to change)

It'll be up to the cert man to give his approval :)

i could allways place a spacer on the back of the brake pad.. providing i clear it with my cert guy first whats the issue?

If i get the ok on spacing the rotor off the hub surly it wont be an issue to space a block between the 2 cylinders and the back of the pad, I would just have to get the block made up to match the backing plate of the pad.

Whats the story with certing spacers, do they need to be fixed to anything/the hub?

Hah, yes you're right...must have been having a dyslexic moment
As for pad spacers, yeah you might be able to run them, check with a cert guy to make sure they're kosher.

Use of Subaru rotors

Postby Trls250s » Sat Jan 10, 2009 8:31 pm

FYI. I am running a set of Subaru STi MY02 rotors on my ST165 with ST205 calipers. I got the rotors from BNT and were cheaper than ST205 rotors. The advantage of the Subaru rotors is the height of the rotor. These are 53mm instead of 59mm so need for spacers behind the rotor and they are 30mm thick so not a great difference from 32mm of the 205 rotors. I had to have them turned down to 300mm diameter which allowed the use of the standard mounting points on the hub.

kinda rangi but with mine ( st205 brake swap to 185 ) when they touched ( i shuld have remebered that when i did mine ) we just cleaned up the edge of the ball joint with a tiny bit of grinding , and it cleared fine ..

i remember mine being over 300mm too - with no clearance issues on a 185 widebody..
