just looking at the super cheap tard me ones but worried it won't fit that well. have heard horror stories about those cheap ones, cracking, too short, fouling on air con etc. can anyone allay my fears?

yup they crack. pretty sure the XSPOWER ones crack but prob dependant on the way the exhaust is set up. if they are braced they prob survive.

not to sure about the aircon thing cause from what ive seen they have both been on sw20 style engines.

if you can id prob go with a steam pipe one off if there available.

I know someone who recently bought a trademe ST205 downpipe and the alignment was off.

i just took mine back in today after it had cracked on the weld, half way around the whole thing! the guys in the shop said they've sold heaps but this is the first one to come back, if i was to use another one again, i'd get a brace to bolt to the block and the bottom of the pipe, like the factory cat

I have an XS power DP on my mr2, I don't have aircon so can't comment on them hitting things but it all went on fine, and it hasn't cracked after over 20,000km of driving on an exhaust which doesn't even have a flex joint and only has 1 hanger. I was intending to improve the exhaust because I thought it would definitely cause the downpipe to crack, but I've been too lazy/busy to fix it, and it hasn't broken after lots of use.

oh, the only problems I had were that the lower brace didn't really line up (only using 1 bolt to hold it on to the lower flange) and it came with bolts to replace the studs in the turbo but they were the wrong thread pitch

Ditto here, same setup and no problems with cracking on mine, welds are pretty meaty.

Only problem I had was having to add 30mm to the B pipe so it would meet the dump pipe. Incidently this involved replacing the whole length of B pipe at a cost of $200. I did have a full FGK exhaust system so this might explain why it was different to factory B pipe.

If youre concerned spend a bit more and get an Aussie 3" dump pipe.

ANY stainless manifold, dump pipe needs to be braced, no matter who made it, without bracing over time it will crack.
When stainless gets red hot its very very flexible.

the aussie is definately a quality item, but its also a big step up in price. like 3-4 times! I'm definately tempted by the ko racing item though: ceramic coated and 2.5" which i'd much prefer over 3". or an evil si custom one.

its just for the sake of $160 i'm tempted to try the xs power one. i think they're designed for an mr2 over an st205 so i'd anticipate more issues with me fitting it, in particualar i think it'll foul on my air con.

the $160 one's on trademe are not xs power ones, they are some generic brand for china, and do not come with any brace at all, only some bolts which are the wront size anwyay.

do not buy them unless you are going to brace the bottoms of them IMO

unless you want to learn the hard way like me

i have one off tardme, the seller's name was Luxury Sports iirc

Driven around 10,000kms, no issues yet.

Fitment was good, all bolts were of correct pitch (which was a definate surprise) , waste gate didn't jam open either which the earlier XS ones seemed to do alot

AND it doesn't have any issues regarding a/c on a sw20. Factory cat pipe does not want to come out if you got a/c.... requires alot of love until it comes out and it's not something lightweight.

For $160, from my experience, i don't think you can go wrong lol

By the way, i don't have a support bracket. maybe i need one... hmm

I put a luxury sports one on my ST205, fitment was reasonable, bolts fitted fine, 2500km so far and no problems.

i have a genuine aussie exhausts one ..

had one on my previous 185 group A as well ..

5 + years of abuse , both still look like new and have no cracks

you pay 4 times more because of QUALITY AND FITMENT..

its like buying cheap shitty chinese rubber and expecting them to handle like proper michelen pilots when rallying .. Its not gunna happen ..

Save - buy the genuine item , never look back ..

well i have the xs power down pipe not braced nothing to brace it to an yeah alignment was off bit it doesnt leak an i have removed the aircon as well goes great on my st205
