Securing spare wheel.

Postby shazeal » Mon Dec 22, 2008 5:56 pm

Ok, I am close to sorting all the WoF problems my car had. The last thing on the list is securing the spare wheel in the boot. The car has the 2 bolt holes on the raised piece where the centre of the spare tyre would sit.
The car came with a honda jack, so I am wondering is the standard jack supposed to aid in securing the spare wheel in some way? Or do I just stick in a long bolt with a piece of metal on one end to hold down the wheel?

Really want to get this sorted before the xmas break so any help is much appreciated. A photo of the stock setup for holding down the tyre would be great also if anyone has one? :)

Car is AE92 Levin btw.
Current - 83 Levin AE85 Notch.
Ex - 89 Sprinter - Red Top, 88 Levin - 4agze.

Just pull it out?

Spare wheel isn't a requirement but if it's there, it's got to be secure. Easy fix is to remove temporarily...

So I can go back to the WoF guy after hes said to secure it with no wheel in the boot? Like its written on my WoF sheet, secure spare wheel.

Yeah, shouldn't be a problem... they will probably know why its not there so might be a pain about it. But just ask for the part of the requirement which says it even needs one if they take issue.

However, if you have a long bolt and a metal plate, thats a good way to fix the problem. Factory they come with a bolt which has a shaped head that is easily turned by hand.
