:lol: it's a toyota therefore it's a far superior car to faster/lighter/more popular cars in it's class - even if it has just as much plastic inside it as any other jappa :lol:

I believe the GT-Four has problems too. Apart from changing synchros Toyota didn't spend a red cent on gearbox development between the 1988 GT-Four and the very last of the manual Caldinas. That gearchange could have been sooo much better. Toyota had better ignition technology available than coil and dizzy, it hung around a bit long. The durability of the superstrut balljoints causes trouble and I've always found the suspension settings to be just a little compromised. The ST205 is not a city car but comes to life on the open road. Hence I have a car with a bit more low speed enjoyment for commuting.

Dare I say it I actually like some of the development put into the EVO, flasher diffs etc. However the tack on aerodynamics leaves me cold.

It is a pity that there are very few Lancia integrales and 4wd performance euros in NZ, we get a very limited view of what is available.

1994 .. just over 2000 made in WRC form , 4 only left in this country that were NZ new. Its RARE to find a wrc

13.5 second quarter stock - not bad for a 1994 slow piece of ugly ...

faster than S14 , escort cosworth , Rx7 , and a few others on an Option Up comparision. Only the Jza80 supra managed to beat it

Top gears rating of the WRC version that a few of us here own.

Clarkson loved it - but the escorts more " british , so it just pipped the comparison .

They are an undervalued performance car - My old basically stock WRC can still hold its own against most new cars , still looks good for its age , and is well featured enough not to need much more than a better clutch and a small intercooler change to support 350+ HP ( with the aid of say a power FC ).

They are an enthusiasts car - quite hard to find , not as common as alot of the other offerings which makes them a little more " underrated "

i know i wont be parting with my WRC for a long time , like rich its a piece of history , and does exactly whats needed , and is a joy to drive ..

the JDM ones going under 10K these days are a bargain - a good WRC still in japan still would cost 15G plus to get , lasty check , but alas whats here in the country now is all that will be available - they no longer can be imported .

If you want a budget toyota supercar, with real rally pedigree , then there is no other subsitute for bang for bucks ..

Just good luck convincing any of us WRC owners to part with ours.

That's not what happened at all, the escort won the comparison because it was 4500 pounds cheaper to buy than the GT-Four.

But they were designed to hit trees at 180km/h, thats how they got those looks haha, but seriously I think they were designed for bigger cooling areas for the intercooler/radiator brakes hence the reason they look the way they do

God if people are worried about owning evos/STI's and them costing a bit to repair just imagine the repair bill on one of those, very cool cars but ouch!
Theres a guy that runs a sierra cosworth down here in motorsport events that had the engine rebuilt recently and it apparently cost twice as much as my car is worth 8O

could not be bothered quoting the comment, but who ever said "BUT,BUT,BUT EVO/STI have BREMBO(OMG)!!!11eleven", Celicas come with their own 4 Pot fronts and 2 Pot rears, that are of comparable size (very similar diameter, pad area and width), and rotors and pads sourced from Toyota are way cheaper than Brembo's for EVOs or STIs.
Also don't compare these cars on the street lights, compare them driving on open road and some nice mountain passes.
Unlike wankers that base their info off internet (or wanker delight - New Zealand Performance Car Magazine, or other shite magazines where they put half naked women in front shitboxes with chromies, paint jobs and massive NOS bottles, to make it more attractive to walking penises), I have driven whole bunch of evo's, wrx's and sti's, along with all sort of performance euro trash, and I can say that I would never ever buy an evo, I prefer Celica, but if there would be no choice I would settle for STI.

Basically the price range you people (you know who) suggest is on level of GSR (1.8 turbo thingy), and admit it GT4 is a lot nicer car than the excuse of Turbo 4WD that handles worse than FWD N/A version of it, I am talking about pos EVO4 shape GSR, that has got performance similar to 20v (aka very slow), but people manage to sell them at 6 to 8g . ...

i love my st205, cant see my self driving anything else at the moment

its got enough power to get the arse out in the dry taking off from around a corner :)
sits nicely on the road, no computers to mess up your driving,, if you stuff up your racing line, no diff controlled traction controlled Bill gates machine to save you from it...

hence why i love it , that and im like 1 of 2 people in Tauranga that has one :)

Sounds like you should be driving a Cefiro or Silvia? :lol: 4WD's are supposed to grip - not loose traction :wink:

Only if they need to scrub off speed in a hurry, Its called a Scandinavian flick but mostly the goal is to keep the car in the straightest line and drive those lines while keeping your wheels in the wheel tracks 8)

dear b1nz and iOnic,

this is a toyota forum guys. as rich mentioned, no-one ever said we were impartial! I'd be the first one to admit the st205's flaws, as i said earlier there's no way its as fast as an evo or an sti, but i think you're missing the point being so intent to seemingly stir everyone up by slagging it off. i'm all for constructive criticism but at the end of the day this is supposed to be a group of people who like toyota's- whether you think thats rational or not!

Its a bit like me joining up an evo forum just to wank on about how evo's are slow compared to my gt-r skyline. it might be true, but its just a bit of a silly exercise. at the end of the day you have to love your car for what it is- there'll always be someone with more power and more money than you.

we weren't slagging the celica off :lol: we were simply pointing out the flaws in the argument that it is a superior car to either the evo or the wrx. I'm sure in some ways it is, but performance isn't one of them

as I have already said - I'm not particularly a fan of either of the 3 nor will I ever go out and buy any of them. just trying to clear up some of the one-eyed'ness here. they're all good cars - saying the celica is at the top of the list is rather...... :lol:

Please show me exactly where in the 4 or 5 pages of this topic where exactly I stirred everyone up by slagging off an ST205?
If you post criticism on a topic be prepared that someone else may have a different opinion to yours :wink:

So if someone you think is wrong about something to do with a Toyota on a Toyota forum, you shouldn't say anything because the unwritten laws on said forum state that Toyota's are far superior than any other make of car? :lol:

yep i specifically signed up to this forum to stir you up :lol: you've got me - you win the prize.

I actually secretly know that the celica is in fact much faster than the lighter and more powerful evo/wrx (of course). it is also far more luxurious than either of two because celica interiors are world renowned for their luxury (of course). I apologise profusely for comparing a limited edition high end performance vehicle to lesser models like the lancer evolution and impreza wrx's. Afterall between the two of them they only have more WRC wins than anything else. I hope you can accept my sincere apology
