turning over but not starting?

Postby HELBND » Thu Jan 01, 2009 7:41 pm

ok ive got an ae110 sitting at home that will turn over, but wont start.

ive checked all fuses and they seem to be ok, has a new battery and yes, its got fuel in it :P

the previous owner hooled the battery up the wrong way round, and that caused the problem.

any ideas?

Really sure the fuses are ok?
Should've blown the Fusible link/s rather than anything else.

you need to check the things that an engine needs to run..

first off spark and fuel

Spark: pull a plug out and lay it against the block(attached to the lead) and crank to check for spark.

fuel: if its injected? you can use a noid light or oscilloscope to test whether the ecu is firing the injectors. a digital multimeter wont react fast enough to see the pulse.
you can also pull the fuel rail out with the injectors in still and see if they spray when cranking.

if you not getting anything then chances are the ecu is fried or isnt getting a trigger signal.

try checking the ecu for codes.

and as a final thought.... fusible links, it may have discrete ones(like big fuses) or they are inline with the power wires(and just look like wires)

if the engine check light is not comming on with the key on and engine not on
you have some serious issues like the ECU is either $&#$% or not getting power.

cars deffinatly do not like having the polarity reversed.

the starting circuit is the most basic so that wont suffer.

its either going to be the ecu or ignitor things like that

most injectors are held into the rail by bolting the rail to the head or inlet manifold, if the pump is turned on when its not secure they have a habit of 'blowing' injectors out and fuel everywere.

noid light or simple led is the easiest way to check

Check this first, most common thing when battery connected the wrong way.
