ae92/blacktop air conditioning

Postby Cakky » Sun Jan 04, 2009 1:12 pm

anyway, I figure its about time I get off my lazy ass and do something about my air conditioning

my car still has all the original air con lines and everything they're just cable tied off to one side at the moment.

question is, is it ok to use these lines with the blacktop aircon compressor/motor? someone mentioned something about not being able to use the old gas with the new style compressors?

obviously I'm going to have to get a new one anyway cuz the old one has just been sitting there holes open so won't be good to use

cheers

the lines + condenser + reciever dryer will all be ok to use. when you get it gassed, tell the people doing it that the lines have been opened for a long time. so they can put it under vaccumm for longer then normal to get all the moisture etc out. most toyota's after 95ish use the current gas, also make sure that use get the correct oil, should be ND-8 from memory.

ok sweet, from what I understand if the condensor has been sitting there without anything plugged up ie the holes open that the dust and water that may have got into it makes it not good to use??

you could flush it out with white spirits if you were worried about dust ( if it were me i would ), but moisture will be sucked out when the system is vaccummed before the gas is installed. ( gas is installed as a liquid )

No worries, just make sure they put it under vacuum for a couple of hours

You will probably find that the aircon gas in AE92 is R12 and AE111 is R134. They have different fittings on them

And the different gas types use different oil and seals etc etc. Check with an A/C place first

So is the AC pump from the black top compatible with the flow and return lines, condenser, evap etc from a AE92 (or in my case AE82)

What refrigerant was used in BT's. And what refrigerant is preferred/most common in NZ?

anybody here used one of these from http://www.es-refrigerants.com? said they offer lower head pressure than other refrigerants
they are on trdeme and is compatible with r12 or r134a. can be a DIY kit i reckon...
