Recommended workshops (or conversely places to avoid)

Been calling round a few places for quotes on various things, such as intakes, exhausts, stereo installations and suspension work and prices don't really vary all that much from shop to shop.

Wondering if people can help me out with a bit of word of mouth recommendations for local shops (anywhere in the Wellington Region) so I can narrow down my search/research somewhat.

Price on items is only part of the consideration, and I know very very few people who have had any work done to their cars other than services or cheap as possible repairs for wofs.

Can you narrow down what you actually want done? Sounds like everything except panel and paint is on your list.

Mendoza Mechanical in Upper Hutt for overall knowledgable owner and good work on pretty much anything.

Total Performance (or Total Suspension as I think its called now) in Petone - for suspension, exhausts etc.

Both of the above can strictly speaking be done by Total Performance, his EVO speaks volumes for his grasp on suspension setup. Intake/exhaust - MIDAS in Porirua (Dean or Dan) do all the work on my car(s) and I am clearly happy enough with it to plug

Stereo installs are easy, so you could do that yourself.

The other stuff depends mainly on what you want to achieve and how much you want to spend doing it. If you just to make something different from what it was then anyone can do that.

Stereo installs are hella easy, most of them you can just use an adaptor from supercheap auto

Even without one of those they're easy enough as long as you have the wiring colours for your stock system.

Get em from Repco, they are (or were last I heard) half the price of the supercheap ones.

+1 for Midas Porirua for exhaust work and assorted welding. work is hella tidy and price is unbeatable.

+1 for Mendoza mechanical in upper hutt, labour prices are like 20$ cheaper than in the city (from memory 50 or 55 compared to 70 p/h, something like that) and they are quick and know what they are doing, they identified a random unknown wheel bearing on my old trueno and replaced it on the same day and i couldnt believe how cheap it was when i got the bill.

Ians always running late, but does a A class job. I remember him installing a series of TV's in the headrests in an SUV, got to the point of re-trimming the headrests.

Suspension, exhausts, sway bars etc go see Ron at Total Performance or what ever he calls himself. Did my exhaust and inter cooler piping on my starlet and did suspension work on some of my other cars. Definitely recommend his work

Is Ron back at work? i know he had some health issues and was away overseas for a while. I'm sure his workshops still running in his absence though.

I have in my head Diesel and Turbo MIGHT to though I'm not 100% sure on that.
