alternator belt snapped/ pulley in bush!!

Postby Cakky » Wed Jan 07, 2009 4:54 pm

Ok so was driving home I know one of my belts has been squealing a bit lately but usually goes away, this time it won't stop, I'm thinking shit somethings gonna snap here, followed by the smell of burning rubber, followed by a PING and engine lights coming on.

Pull over and see the alternator belt has snapped, think ok well I'm only two minutes away from home should have plenty of charge to make it, carry on down the road and hear CLANG CLANG CLANG and look out my drivers side window to see a pulley wheel rolling into the bushes!!! Stop and look for quite a while but have no luck finding it! :(

Just trying to figure out which wheel it is exactly, the one that is missing is just below and to the right of the alternator wheel, I need to know so I know which part I am looking for.

And I apologise in advance if people find this stupid to ask lol.

Actual LOL!

When belts squeel they're actually doing mini burnouts, which really fuks them up.

Been doing my 4E-FE and I don't see an idler pulley, it's actually a belt driven waterpump if I'm not mistaken, so make sure first.

And that said waterpump pulley is held on by 4 bolts.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

The 20V engine's have an idler pulley on the alternator belt,
my guess too would be that. possibly broken the bolt, or maybe was loose.

Lol, yeah was pretty funny just to look over and see it rolling away, I guess at least it wasn't a wheel rolling away!!!

Pretty sure it's the idler pulley so that's that solved!
