What freight Company/Anyone going Auckland to Palmy?

Postby xsspeed » Thu Jan 08, 2009 1:51 pm

So everyone seems to think mainfreight is a bit of a laugh

Who should I ring to get a decent quote for shipping.

Need to send a bonnet and bumper to a dude in Chch, and a gearbox to a dude in palmy.

Or is anyone going from palmy to Auckland keen to take a small FWD auto Gbox for a corolla? Beers/Cash from the dude in Palmy

Cheers

I've only ever used mainfreight, never had an problems so i'd be going with them.

Depot to depot is usually best(value) option.

Do you need to show up with it on a pallet? or do they have them?

Would you have to tie down a bumper/bonnet?

When I sent a bonnet I wrapped it up in a sheet and taped it up. Just took the bonnet in, they wrapped it in glad wrap weighed it measured it and I was off. Was being paid for at other end but the guy got back in touch to say it arrived in perfect condition.

So i'd just rock up with the parts. Probably depends who ya get but the guy that did mine was a good sort and it was easy as from my point of view :P

Whatd the bonnet cost to send out of interest?

Sweet might just wrap it all in old sheets then.

Reckon a small fwd gbox would require its own pallet?

Not sure on the cost sorry, never asked the buyer what it ended up costing (was just glad to see the back of the bonnet).

Not sure on what they need pallet wise, if its not too far to mainfreight depot though best option is to pop in and ask the guys in the warehouse, not the paper shufflers in the office

Mainfreight aren't the cheapest but we have found they offer the better service of all the companies.

You could try Roadstar, they're cheaper than mainfreight

it can be pretty different, most of mainfreight drivers are owner/operators so sometimes it comes down to each driver the way they load their truck.

Those prices are pretty good, at least you know it will arrive in 1 piece otherwise it will be fixed/replaced at mainfreights expense.

What I have found is you can generally get a better price off the little guy or a specialist for those towns. E.g my main freighting company specialises in Auckland - Tauranga - Gisborne transport, i now pay rates only half the price of mainfreight rates.

Their may be a freight company in Palmerston north that does (i.e) Auckland - Hamilton - Palmy runs daily and could provide a better price. Same goes with ChCh, a lot of freight goes down there!

Something to think about for next time though.

Best of luck!

Seems highly priced, I sent a gearbox up to auckland depot to depot cost $50. last bonnet i did was wrapped up in cardboard and cost about same price. that got sent to auckland too. They go by the cubic centimetres, so the less packaging the better;

If you are after a Pallet, go to East Tamaki. a few companies leave them on the side of the road and advertise them as firewood :D

Mainfreight seem to be ok... but some times their online calc spits out some pretty high prices :o
