How far in does the driveshaft have to go?

Postby RomanV » Thu Jan 08, 2009 4:00 pm

Aaahh well I've put my driveshaft in, and the circular dirt sheild peice on the end of the driveshaft is sitting inside the outer shield surround that's around the output shaft of the gearbox.

From measurements there's approx 50mm worth of driveshaft length engaged onto the spline of the output shaft, but it looks as though it could go in a bit further...

How far in does the driveshaft normally go, I'm guessing just about all of the way?

Will it be fine as is, or will I need a longer driveshaft?

Would it be acceptable to have a packer plate of sorts in between the diff and the driveshaft, to push the whole things across?

Or alternatively, anyone got any suggestions as to where I can go to get a new driveshaft made up, or this one lengthened in akl.

Thanks

a drive shaft should never go in all the way, it acts as a slip joint to account for suspension travel,

take a photo and post it up to give us a good idea

failing that a couple of d/shaft places off hand are
MGE in east tamaki
Beattys in manukau
