16v 4AGE spark plug lead differences

Postby fuzzilogyc » Thu Jan 08, 2009 11:32 pm

Hey,

Does anyone know the differences between the spark plug leads for the earlier 16v 4AGE (blue and red top bigport), and the late smallport 16v 4AGE?

I need a new set for my smallport. I've found a TRD set on trademe to suit an early 4AGE, but I don't know if they'd fit on my engine. Can anyone help? Cheeers

blue top have a different fitting on the plug end as they go through the center between the cam covers, wheer small ports go under a cover abd have a conventional end

big port, see how the leads go theough the center

both pieces are removeable/interchangeable so they should work if you take your plug cover thingy off

actually thinking about ti the angles at the dizzy end may be differen also

yeah, i don't tihnk the spark plug end is a big deal cos i don't use the centre cover anyway... i'm more worried about whether or not the dizzy ends are the same.

can anyone confirm?

no dizzy plug ends are not the same. big port's have universal ring style plug tips, and small port has shitty toyota small pin style plug tips,
you can still use the big port plugs if you buy a bigport dizzy cap.
you should change every thing anyway if you need to change leads,
dizzy cap, rotor, and leads should be the goods.

in my experience the dizzy caps have different bolt hole spacing, so a bigport cap wont go onto a smallport dizzy / vice versa

correct there are lots of different caps, all not interchangable,

so on a smallport you are stuck with smallport 5mm leads,
cannot change cap.
and cant swap whole dist either as the sensor setup is different
