just recived a summonse... wtf?

i just recieved a summonse this morning, to appear in court on the 28th..

the offence:

Exceeded signposted speed limit by 15kp/h ( 115kp/h in a passing lane, 100kp/h zone, SH1 ).

WHAT THE $&#$%?

thats like.. a $120 ticket, not a court appearance?

nobody can tell me anyything, rang the police station the officer is from, they dont know anything, rang the courts, they dont know anything, rang the fines collection outfit, i dont owe them money...

I think thats usually what you get after you drag out paying a fine for far too long, never happened to me , i've only ever gone as far as the 2nd warning.
have you changed address in the last 6 months? maybe you havent recieved the 4 or 5 warnings you've been sent up til now?
does the summons give details for the vehicle etc? maybe someone has been using your name when they got pulled over?

will be some boring explaination, although it isnt very nice to get a summons in the mail. usually you need to go to the station of the issuing officer and ask to speak the officer of the senior sgt in person. they can be suprisingly helpful sometimes. failing that, the judges in our courts usually have some common sense, and will figure it out.

Oh dear... I got a court summons once...
Going round a corner doing 50, lost control and hit the curb... little did I know that the 15km corner sign had gone missing!
Cop wrote the wrong thing on the ticket that he gave me, then I pointed it out and he changed it on my copy not his! Next thing I know I have to go to court!
Oh well judge just laughed when I explained and showed him what happened and told me to go...

I dont know whats going on.. im hoping the judge will see 115kp/h, and be like, wtf? go home.. lol.

In that case its usually a Notice of Fine arrives in the mail first, not a Court Summons.

I'd be wanting to talk to the officer who wrote the infringement.

They write to the owner of the vehicle and basically say "was it you? If not, then who was driving?"

Can they even do that? Can't prove who was driving....

They send you a letter first asking you to verify who was driving the vehicle if its a slightly more serious driving offense like a red light camera snapping you. Then they send the driver the infringement notice.

At first I thought maybe it was just a mistake ie. sent the wrong person a letter in the mail, But maybe you were ticketed by a speed camera and they didnt have your correct mailing address? Unpaid fine = court summons.

Will be interesting to find out what it's all about though? Good luck anyway
