Just the battery?

Postby AE86less » Tue Jan 13, 2009 12:21 pm

I'm pretty sure I've got this one figured out, but wanted to double check as I don't want to be selling the Levin (BT 4age) as a lemon.

The story goes that I went away for a while and when I came back and went to go for a drive the curn turned over a few times and then started clicking like it had a flat battery. Jump started it, drove around for 15 mintues then came back and tried to start it, turns over then clicks. Damn.

At that stage I took the battery to put in the KE70 (standard 4k) I just bought, put it in, jumpstarted and drove as per normal for several weeks. Then a couple of days ago I went to put the battery back in the Levin: turn, turn, click. WTF, that battery has been turning over the KE70 for a good 30 seconds before it starts everytime, it should be mint. Put the battery back in the KE70 and start it up fine with no jumpstart.

To me it sounds like the battery no longer has the grunt to turn over a high comp engine? (fingers crossed)

If it can handle the mighty 4k it should turn over a truck motor lol

Sounds like it is battery to me. Had the same thing with our caldina. Would struggle on that, but fine on a 2e corolla

generally speaking, the clicking indicates bad contact and/or flat battery, usually both.

Last tiem that happened to me i just went down to repco, grabbed some new battery lead clamp thingys, put them on, and it was fine again.

95% just battery. I wouldn't expect bad contacts on a newer car.

4k will not match the high compression of the BT. Which will make a difference as to how much juice a car needs to turn over. (I think)

I had this just recently... turned out that my battery was dying, but I put other batteries in and got the clicking also.
The brushes on the starter motor needed replacing.

if you reaaly wana make sure, run a jumperlead, one end connected tot he positive on your batt, the other to the positive stud on your starter, then crank, thatl tell you if you got massive voltage drop down the wire
