Catch My Drift- Learner Days

You wanted it. We've arranged it. Get in on it!

Catch My Drift is a regular event for learners to get some time out on the track in a no-pressure environment, where everyone else is around the same level as you.

We have professional drifters on-hand at all times to give you tips, pointers, and generally just help you out as you learn how to control your car while drifting.

The venue we use is the Slipway Drifting Facility, located in Brooklyn Wellington. The address (good for searching on google maps!) is 48 Ashton Fitchett Drive, Brooklyn, Wellington. It’s at the top of Brooklyn hill, behind the Wind Turbine.

We generally start the day off on “The Cones – C Class License”. This is a basic test to show your current skills and what needs improving.

The C Class consists of you completing the following:

1.Donut around cone 1
2.Donut around cone 1, cone 2, then figure 8 around cones
3.Donut around cone 1, cone 2, figure out, then big donut around both cones.


Depending on the level of the entrants we have on the day, we will chop and change what we are doing throughout the day.

5th Dec

The days will commence at 10AM SHARP. Any stragglers – charge stays the same no matter what time you show up.

$50 - Drivers (prepaid only)
$60 if you pay on the day and risk missing out
$10 – Spectators

NO ALCOHOL
NO DRUGS
NO MUPPETS

Kinda on topic is Drifting a RWD only thing? I note most of the best are RWD, but still curious, I think something like this would be a sweet way to start.

Quite keen for this, do I just rock up at 10am and bring my $50 and any spectators bring $10 to watch? Or is it pay in advance?
What gear is needed? fire extinguisher? helmet? overalls? shoes? license?

Yah, a front driver in standard trim obviously won't drive like that. But that said, a standard 1990 Cefiro wouldn't exactly drive like a drift car either.

But I think we all knew that anyway

Fire extinguisher and a helmet is all you need. If you pay before hand..pm me in regards to that you will have a gauranteed spot but if you turn up on the day i cant guarantee you will be drifting as we have had a lot of interest.
And yes spectators just pay on the day.
Would be cool to have you down this way.

ps...fwd drifting haha, you guys can come try it....maybe in reverse?

Come to one of our Harbour capital car club autcrosses or motorkhanas and you can see Leon, Myself or TazzyD do it

well i have and it was at the slipway and it was wet i was in websters car he had it fairly sideways i have never been so shit scared in my life however leon did see me afterwards and i had a huge grin on my face luckly that car has plenty of things to hold on to ha ha

Note the rear wheels not turning for large portions of the slide due to handbrake use. fwd drift was big when the d1nz was in its first year or two

Well im sorry if you think everyone knows all about drifting, but I asked you a valid question, I dont' know all there is to know about drifting, so I asked you if it can be done in a FWD.

Obviously it can, cause people do, I didn't know, which is why I asked.

Does the learner day only cater for those in RWD? Are NZ teachers only interested in RWD Drifting? I've seen 4wd drifting too, can I bring my stock evo along?


What I would like you say in a reply is "This session is all about RWD drifting as we believe FWD / 4WD drifting is too advanced for a learners session, thanks for your interest"

Sorry you took things the wrong way. Yes drifting is prominitly a rwd sport, but yes you can drift in a 4wd however a serious ammount of power is needed and slipway is far too tight regardless.

Your more than welcome to come down and check things out anyway, see how it works etc and learn the in's and out's.

One of my friends is really into his photography, so when I mentioned that i was going up to this day, he seemed quite keen on coming up and getting some shots (he has some fairly nice gear too).
