When I bought an ae101 levin in Oct 08 it was putting out 98 db from the exhaust, in that lovely headachy drone = at 3k.. perfffect for motorway driving! Ahh!
I went to pitstop who cheerfully put on a new rear muffler, replacing the straight through that was previously on it.
As described, the noise is around 92 - 93db, warrantable as promised. However the straight through has been replaced with a complicated muffler design, very restrictive. They said that the performance would decrease - but declined to mention that it would void the point of having 2.25 inch throughout!
The point is not to have sour grapes against pitstop, but more about what to do next. Obviously putting the old muffler back on will solve on problem - but not the other, and vice versa....
After having a chat to the old man (using to work in the old mitsi factory back in the day), he said interrupting the flow with an inserted pipe or divider can change the point of resonance and therefore solve the problem..... or putting more hotdogs in (there are 2 large ones already)
seems a little theortical and expense - I would have to chop the new muffler off to have a go... (have no means of welding it back on myself)
has anyone else heard of this/ tried it? given the new exhaust laws and the number of cars needing to adhere to them..
your thoughts?
