lmfao @ "police should learn when to give up"

you'd be singing a different tune if it was your car he tried to hijack with a gun in your face

Everyone belives that if your getting chased by the police and you go faster than 180k they have to stop the chase,
so everyone now tries to outrun the police.

POLICE:oh yeah we know who that guy is but everyytime we try to get him he drives really fast and waves a gun around so we just let him go. He started out just stealing handbags but has progressed cos we can't stop him due to guidelines set down buy liberal hippies who value "Human life" over the rights of the entire community.

SNWTOY:

Very funny. As above I said I don't have the answers, but a 1.5 hour high speed chase is nuts. Maybe as Dutton says the police are not aggressive enough, but then again america is enough of a warning against escalating the violence level. And so we head in the same direction where it becomes a case of who has the biggest weapons - cops or crims...

Where was the point in the chase that they said 'we've got the chopper on him, let's back off and put a trap iin place' - maybe this did happen, but he was able to evade for so long?

I'm surprised nobody's thrown in the seemingly obligatory "I blame the alcohol/party pills/meth" yet.

That's not true thought isn't it?

I honestly believe judgement on who did what can't be passed until a full report is given out. I remember watching this on the news just after it happened and details were sketchy and the media tried to make it out like the police had shot somebody dead.

that barstard needed to be stoped... im sure the cops id everything they could at the time, but a guy with a gun that finds out he can get away with anything he wants is bad news for everyone... expeahaily if a bunch more people figure it out aswell... the gangs are causing enough of a problem coz the cops cant do anything about them.. imagin a crime wave with guns... it wont be just 2 people who gets shot...

cops need more power to stop this shit once and for all just hope this brings it to everyones attention so that the government is forced to do something about it..

doesn't matter if it's true or not, if people believe it.

Agreed. You know it's going to far when a 17 year old KID gets killed thanks to some fcuker who decided to go GTA on everyone.

The shit people are doing now-a-days is shocking, all because they think they can get away with it, because NZ Police are soft thanks to the protocols and procedures forced onto them.

cop should have just shot him in the head as soon as he pulled a gun.
hopefully now with a new government in some of the regulations will be lifted, or at least modified so that they can do their job more effectivly... which happens to be serve and protect the public.

and if your caught with class A drugs thats a bullet in the head to.

+1 for the keep chasing side of the discussion.

it sucks that a bystander got shot, its really really awful.

but letting these scumbags get away is not the answer, people have to know that if they run from the cops they will be hunted until captured or killed. its the hope that they will escape that makes them run.

Disengaging the pursuit is not the answer as the guy obviously had a blatant disregard for others.

Having said that: the police need better training and support than they are getting as they should not have been shooting when a civy was in the line of fire.

Now do you think they should have backed off?

Do you really think he was randomly shooting out the window? He was probably attempting to (a) shoot the cops, or (b) get the cops to back off

Get a grip. That's the same as the death sentence without trial.

oh ok thats fine, just the the drugged up idiots run riot, possible catch some of them, go to trail, get let off the a slap on the wrist because
" he/she had a hard childhood blah blah ".
if someone pulls a gun on someone, fairly good chance their going to use it.... why let them?
