Could just buy a manifold with a wastgate flange on already, then you will not have any cracking problems. The aftermarket ones do need a good clean up on the inside with the die grinder
The turbo he is going to use doesnt have a internal wastegate as its a massive T60! rated to 600hp.
I used to run the same system on my old 4agte having 2 pipes to 1 using a splitter plate. Adding the a splitter plate is actually very very easy, even easier if the bottom of the valve of the gate you buy is flat.
And for brands, Tial is the best, always has been always will be

But you have to pay the $$$ for them.
I have used chinese ones on mates cars and they seem to work mint. The only think I do with them is dis assemble, re locktight the grub screws that hold the diaphram flange to the shaft, and sometimes replace the diaphram with a branded one as they can be quite thin so they easily pierce.
