Electrical issues with an ae101 4agze

Postby RAZA » Sat Jan 31, 2009 9:30 am

I've got some strange issues with my ae101 levin.

This morning I fired it up, and the CEL light came on. No sign of any other issues. Checked oil/water etc all OK, so figure it's ok to drive, so take it for a drive and after 5 mins it starts randomly flashing all the dashboard warning lights.

Hunted around on here and it seems that to put it into diagnostic mode I short TE1 and E1 on the block under the bonnet then check the flashing of the light. When I do this, the engine slows noticeably, and the CEL just stayed full on like it had been when I turned the car on.

Stopped and started the car, and found that the CEL had turned off, tried shorting TE1 and E1 again, still slows the rpm of the engine, but doesn't make the CEL flash - it's now staying off.

Any ideas?

The engine slowing is because it's taking the timing back down to base timing (10 degrees BTDC). It's a good time to set you idle when it's in dignostic mode too.

Dunno what's going on with your CEL light though. Maybe want to check all the relevant earth points in your car, as earth faults have seemed to be the cause of many of my car's problems.

What ahppens when you start the car now, from cold?

if I start it now the CEL is off, but if I bridge the te1 and e1 terminals the CEL stays off - I thought it was supposed to flash evenly if there was no fault?
