Max Oil pressure

What oil pressure is too high ? I did the shim trick and wondering is 6bar too high and whats the worst that can happen ?

Toyota Glanza 1.5L motor.

i run approx 4 bar at max.. Possible 4.2 if i looked accuratly..

This is Max so any given rpm this is the max, this is at cold.
Warm it gets up to 5bar.

Why did I do it ? safety i suppose, especially when on the track.

Seems to take longer for any pressure to build up now though

the 2jz in my ex surf ran 90-95psi cold. the 5sgte in my corolla does the same. once upto temp they drop back (obviously) the surf ran around 60-65psi at 2500rpm. the 5sgte is similar and up the rev range the pin the gauge onto the 100psi stopper

having higher pressure isn't going to give you any benefits really, if you go fast round a corner and the oil runs away from the pickup your still going to lose pressure.

although 4-5bar when up to temp is still a good pressure at max revs

I would try keep it around 70-80psi at max revs when hot.

If the pressure is too high, this is not good for the bearings as the oil will pass by too fast.

Eh, where did that idea come from?

It's certainly not the case with plain bearing engines. Needle rollers & ball bearings are a slightly different story though.

high oil pressure can cause the oil not to lubricate the bearings properly.
This is what I have heard, how high im unsure. And the theory behind it I am unsure but what i've heard from engine builders for years now.

the 3sge altezza motor when cold is 800 kpa and when hot is 650 kpa in old scale about 120 and 90 and this is std on all altezza 3sge for the vvti
this is using a mechanical guage
i rev this to 8800 rpm and have no oil problems with a wet sump around race tracks

You're more in danger of blowing an oil seal, popping the oil filter or possibly damaging the pump.

RedMist - Which oil seal is under pressure besides he oil pump seal? Or can it vary from engine to engine.

Oil filter has the only seal under pressure in any I know of
Breaking the pump or bursting the filter are a good possibility.

Oil too fast.

in a rotary high oil pressure will ensure everything keeps spinning freely. I have witnessed a 12A PP race motor which at idle when hot had around 115psi, and 150ish at full noise. A engine builder in the states had a drag strip 13B PP running at 190psi at full revs. His engines never die from lack of oil......
