*SOLVED* Low Idle with A/C ON 20V Silver

Postby possum » Tue Feb 17, 2009 4:31 pm

Whenever i use air con and come up to the light or just being stationary idle drops down to 500rpm and most of the time will drop down to 300-400rpm and sometimes stalls. Its really annoying. How can i fix it, where start to looking?

Car is 1992 Levin Auto 20Valve Silver Top had A/C converted to new 134a gas. Just had recent regas with oil.

check that all the vacuum lines to the power steer rack (part of the idle up system)

check the wires to the aircon pump... one might have been broken when the system was regassed.

does the check engine light come on?

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Check the TPS adjustment.

They are elec idle speed control,

and if the tps doesn't say it's at idle, it wont open the valve.

Sometimes the idle speed control valve can get jammed up with gunk, from the crank case ventilation gases.

I've had one that was locked solid, took about an hour worth of cleaning it and leaving it to soak in various things to free it up again.

I've got a few 20V idle speed control valves here if you want to try swap it over to see if it makes a difference. (pulling it off the manifold and turning it by hand would reveal if that's the case or not though anyway)

would it be possible for someone to pop a brief tut on these iscv valves ???ie: how to get the buggers off, where they are located, how to check they are actually clean etc

- I have this problem as well, attempted carb cleaner (detacting the pipes) whilst on the vehicle and was completely unsuccessful.
