If TRD coilovers can be used as they are an OEM equipment shock, then I'd be trying to argue that they are an OEM option :lol:

Doesn't make them a factory option. Just an aftermarket part (more specifically a race car component) that happened to be sold through Toyota dealerships.

At the end of the day it's a matter of what the series technical people will let you get away with and whether or not it will incite protests.
I think these flares might be a bridge too far.
It does surprise me that anyone would stage a competition for older cars without allowing flares.

It seems kind of stink to have the rolling 20 year limit.

By the time this thing gets off the ground (if it does?) There's already going to be a swag of 90s cars allowed, which are going to stomp on everything else.

The 1988 cut off made sense to make this into a fairly unique and fair sounding class for older japanese cars, as none of the manufacturers had yet brought out any of their popular & easily tunable 90s cars or motors by then.

Why bother with an R30 or R31, or TA63 celica or something, when you could just go straight for a TT 300ZX, or 1JZGTE supra? :?

Especially since they can fit massive wheels from the get go, while some of the older cars cant without flares.

It would be a pity to see this degenerate into just the same bunch of 90s cars that do well in everything else.

Personally I would update the entry year every 3-5 years. So start with 1988 now, in 2014 allow 1993+ etc.

Keeps the series relevent without making it a moving target.

Another option to keep it fair and to keep the cheque book racing out is use a modified version of the rule that some of the European clubs use. At the end of any meeting any driver can offer any other driver an amount of money for the car that they have to accept. In some banger series it is like $1000. But make this $10K or something. Keep the cash out, you will not spend more than 10K building it if someone can buy it for that at the next meeting.

i dont see why they wouldnt just leave it at pre-88

plenty of places for later model cars to be raced, as has been mentioned in a few years there will be plenty of cars permitted that are streets ahead of the stuff that was getting made in the 80s

should be a cool series for a few years anyway.

Will just mean that you get people who build super fast super expensive cars that can do 1.05's and they will drive them around at 1.07.01's.

With the motec dash' etc now days they do predictive lap times on screen in the car, so you can tell your laptime for the next lap, before you have even finished it.

There's an super expensive advantage for a start,
and 700 hp will help you pass the cars on the first 50m out of the corner, and you can cruise the straight,

but that's car racing, and you can never stop the money taking the win.
i.e. In my class the car ahead of me in the championship has a gearbox worth more than twice my whole car.

In all honesty though, anything pre 88 would struggle to make a reliable 500hp, except maybe FC's.

Yeah but 1989 brings in the Z32 with the VG30DETT and then 500HP is easy, bolt ons in fact.

7m's built well will quite comfortably support 500hp. that lets in the mz20 or ma70's. of course the ma70 has it's fat ass as a hinderance, so the extra power wouldn't be an advantage.

why this talk of 500hp?
according to the first page non factory turbos are banned :P

nzea86s car was available from the factory in that sppec, if you had the budget and knew the right ppl :lol:

the minimum lap time will help negate the more modern cars advantages, provided the mods allowed are sufficient to get the older cars down to that speed.

as matt has said, 99% of the time, the $$ wins
even if you dont have all the $$ and are an auto einstein combined with skills of the stig you stil need suffient $$

looking at the entrys so far, the field will be somewhat spread out!

Edit: I see its a 20 year rolling limit, but they still dont allow 4WD.

Probably sneaks in under rule #28

as it would either be a 1989/1990 Skyline GTT which were 2000cc not 2600cc,
or a 1989/1990 Skyline GTR which is 4wd and does not comply,

unless you convert the GTR to 2wd which does not appear to be against the rules.

I'm guessing #28 would be it Matt, as if its their targa car, I'm sure its a 91, so well out of bounds.

Wish I had more money, my sedan would be just right for this.

Cool idea, but theres already cars in that list with mods/configurations that dont fit the rules? 1600cc class looks like it will be sweet
