ae101 C50 to C52?

Postby track_spec » Wed Feb 25, 2009 12:39 pm

Hey
Have just bought a ae101 levin with a 4afe and C50 which has a gearbox problem. I have a spare C52 in the garage out of my ae82 fxgt. Would the C52 fit into the 4afe? any mods needed? any help would be much appreciated.

I think an AE82 would have a C50.

you will have to change the speedo drive. and make sure the starter can mount up rear/front same as your 4afe

Has anyone done this conversion? the only problem I can see would be the clearance between the starter motor and the exhaust manifold. Can anyone shed some light?

The main difference between the gearboxes is the bulge/s on the bell housing for the starter motor.
C50 in an AE82 had 1 bulge on the front for starter.
C52 from later models had 2 bulges. 1 on the front (not sure why) and one on the back for the starter motor.

I'm possibly wrong on the code vs bulge thing... but that's the way i've seen them in cars.

Which gearboxes have the bulges where?
