As has been said it all comes down to the install. I manage AVS and we have preferred installers nationwide that are well practiced and professional.

You cant go past the S5 for what it offers over other brands. They now have waterproof remotes which is awesome, have had one in a bucket for three months, using it daily as well as taking one down to 10m under water, still no worries. Our battery back up sirens use a data signal to control them so they can not be 'tricked' onto thinking the alarm is telling it not to go off while a theif rewires the ignition etc. As well as the onboard turbo timer, the alarm is alot easier to install which saves time and makes for a good install.

We have got our new S5's arriving at the end of next month, these have a 200m line of sight range on the remotes as well as onboard OEM which means no extra cost to have the alarm run off your factory Key. These additions will also be on the rest of the S Series range, S3 and S4 as well as the A4.

If you need any advice give me a shout any time, will look after toyspeeders nationwide 09 4768052

I've got an AVS in my Daily and a Dynotron in fatty SW. I don't think I'll go Dynotron again. With my old no name Chinese brand alarm, it would get go off with grandma's electric kart driving past. With the Dynotron, you'd have to use one of those cranes with a demolission ball at the end of it to get it to make it think something funny was going on.

The AVS I've got is good. It doesn't go off with loud vechicles driving past (except the 10 inch from the turbo back S15 down the road), but kick the tyre and it gives a warning.

Was installed pretty good too. By this guy who was pretty dodgy lookin. His name was 'Brad' or something, I dunno :P

What would one look at for an AVS 5 star jobbie?

On its own and installed?

No AVS star rated system is sold on its own. Normal retail on an S5 is $595 but we are setting up a club sponsorship so there will be a toyspeed discount :)

Nahh, not really. But the Dynotron was installed at a shop, whereas XS1V installed the AVS, as a home job. Friendship aside, he did an excellent job.

The joys of the AVS alarm is it has the shock sensor on board so it removes the need for 'correct' installation. It is also dual stage, eliminating those false alarms as it measures the background noise and will self adjust to its surroundings, quite clever :)

As you mentioned "if they are installing in a hurry", the cheaper someone does an alarm job for you, the more of a hurry they will be in otherwise they dont make any money ;)

I have been thinking of having my car alarmed... seems smart to protect the investment.

XS1V what would a decent AVS alarm installed into a AE111 Trueno cost all up for a toyspeed member? I live in palmerston north :)

ive installed a heap of alarms in the last 4-5 years all different brands, i like installing dynatron or cyclops which are the same thing. for my own car once its finished i will be fitting a meridian by choice because i like all the extra optional features that can be wired up to it and also be programmed to it. for example, meridians have their own turbo timer built into them which can be time adjusted so that means no extra turbo timer under the dash, also i like their glass break sensors, to me thats te only decent break in sensor you can get because it doesn't pick up false alarms like shock sensors do. if you have a shock sensor and your alarm keeps going off because even the slightest bit of noise from an exhaust sets it off, that means other people like your neighbours etc stop taking interest if they hear your alarm going off. there are lots of other feature you can programme with meridians they have a second button on the remote that can be used for other things for example for my car it has airbags and i'm going to set my alarm up so when i lock it, the rear end of the car drops to the ground and when i unlock the car the rear lifts up. only reason i don't want to drop the front of the car is because i think i'd probley forget to park with my front wheels directly straight and if i sack the car out with my wheels turned i'd stuff my front gaurds. also another feature for meridians is an auto electric window wind up. set your alarm and it will wind up any window that has been left down and i'm pretty sure you could do the same to a sun roof.

i know other alarms have good programmable features but i've done a few meridians.

any questions just ask.

XS1V installed my S5, and i love it, even got a pretty limited edition white LED. No false alarms, goes off when my friends think its funny to bang the glass and i cant even steal my own car

What you have just described with the shock sensors is in regard to a single stage sensor, if you have a dual stage sensor, like what comes with all AVS alarms (A4 only uses the first stage but second can be hooked up) then it will measure background noise and greatly reduced the chances of false alarms :) For the best protection you would always choose ultrasonic sensors over the glass and shocks but if you go with an S5 and ultras you get the lot! Perfect :)

Just so you know, all added extras you have named above are available with the AVS and more. Are you installing the new Meridians with the three remotes that have the garage door button??
