ct20b rebuild?

Postby MR2SIK » Fri Feb 27, 2009 4:03 pm

Just out of interest, can a ct20b be rebuilt with better internals for more power the same way a ct26 routinely does?

Also, what would I expect to pay to get a ct20b rebuilt/refreshed to factory specs?

Cheers.

Hey, at least it sounds like a 3s.

Ceramic CT20b rebuilt with a ST205 WRC steel wheel is about $800, i cant remember the exact figure. Thats with oversized bearings, new seals etc. Can find the receipt if your keen.

Yeah, that would be great thanks,

so is that allow it to be more efficent/make more power, or just be more reliable in handling higher boost levels for longer?

Nah that was just back to standard. The steel wheel will allow more boost before shattering, but the ceramic ones do hold up pretty well. The oversized bearings were cos of wear and tear, standard size had too much play or something.

Ok, found the receipt.

Got oversized bearings because the standard ones were worn, and the compressor wheels came in contact with the housings.

It got: ST205 steel turbine wheel, bearings, piston rings, o-rings and got balanced. Total cost was $873.56

Cheers for that.

So does anyone know if the ct20b can be improved upon the same way the ct26 hybrids do? or is it a case of a ct26 being upgraded from factory and becoming a 'ct20b'

I had to read your project page about 3 times to keep track of what turbo you're running lol.

out of interest, what are you doing with your ct20b now?

So far there is no ct20b "upgrades" that I know of to make it better, because the CT20b actually has a smaller compressor housing than a CT26 AFAIK, there's not much room for you to put a better compressor wheel.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

The CT20b cant be upgraded as easy as the CT26,
because of the Bore where the compressor wheel runs.

the T04E Upgrade on the CT26 is fine because the compressor wheel bore is sligtly smaller than the CT26...

but the bore on the CT20B's is smaller than the T04E or even the GT2871 compressor wheels...

there is a way round it. but its a bit dodgy.
