ok drained out the oil and near the end there was an alarming amount of silver oil coming out and after tipping out the oil out of the bucket there was qiet abit more thean expected. Just bought the car and was in desperate need of a service for a long time. I know this isnt good but what exactly is it and what does it mean?

Isnt the stock lsd a viscous? If it is then im sure its a sealed unit.

Im going to be using the same box on my project and ill be using redline shockproof. Other than that i cant help sorry

castrol syntrax.

After a year and a bit of abuse the redline oil caused the syncros to polish the syncro hub on every gear in my gear box, therefore not allowing me to select gears fast.
Normally I would reccomend this oil but not any more!

I will be changing to some special oil that the v8 super cars use but Castrol syntrax would work mint in the viscous lsd box. Backyarder in aussie ran this box and oil with 500hp no issues.

You don't need some super flash oil like track cars use for something on the street. The likes of Castrol VMX or similar will be fine for it. And let it drain for however long it takes to drain out. 2 minutes?

yeah i drained it all out for 2 days on a bid tilt. cleaned bucket then put throught 100mls of new oil and then let it drain into the bucket and there was that silver again. thats why i was enquireing about the flush. Some one mentioned pouring petrol through as its oil based and it will evapourate, sounds like it could work?

I forgot what it was called.
But I put in a similar gearbox oil they use in 4WD's.

Bloody smooth now, works mint.

I'd say your box needs a rebuild.

Silver oil is usually aluminium powder. Maybe you've got a munched up bearing which has somehow chewed up the case or maybe you've got an aluminium shift fork that's getting chewed up. I've seen both happen. Either way, it's not good.
