hey hey quick question for people with 4age know how

Postby trd_chik » Sun Mar 01, 2009 7:11 pm

just wondering...

thinking about reshelling my bluetop 4age and box from my 1985 ae82 corolla fxgt into a 1995 ae111 toyota levin...
does anyone know if this would work??
engine mounts same or different between 16v 4age and 20v 4age?
gearbox mount the same? etc etc etc

Sounds like a good way to ruin two perfectly good cars.

Haha I don't like the odds of that happening.

This sort of thing makes more sense to me :D

It would work but you'd need to change the drivers side engine mount to the 111 one and same with gearbox mount. And you'd need to use the 5 speed out of an ae111 as the rear mount by firewall has 3 bolts and is different style to factory ae82 box.
At a guess you picked up an ae111 and had no engine, and happened to have a 4age and box lying round?

Well at the end of the day, you're putting old technology / (probably high km) engine into a newer model car. Just doesn't make sense. Even if you get that silver shell for cheap, who would buy it with an old as engine in it...

Thats not even taking into account the fact you'd have to rewire everything :?

Why not just focus on the supra you already have? Way cooler car to spend ya money on than blow it on doing the above.

Just my opinion.

*pops bonnet*
"faaaaaar 8O , bluetop t-vis - no way"
cogent

Cheapest option is to just fix what you have now then.

Fixing a few rough areas in an ae82 will be MUCH easier than transplanting an engine into a different shell.

After all it is a daily as you put it.

sell the ae82 and buy an ae101 or ae111 wreck or engine package, swap the whole lot in. much easier than wiring and trying to find parts.
20v in an ae82 i could understand. silvertops can be bought pretty cheaply these days. whole car with chassis damage would be my choice as you get everything.

Agree.

Bluetop AE111 is one step forward in terms of suspension etc and two steps back for the engine.
