4agze - Reliable turbo setup

If anyone is kind enough to share some of their secrets, could you post or PM me your turbo setup. Type of turbo, wastegate,injectors etc...
And also how much power you're making at what boost.

Here in Townsville, AU,the tuner uses Motec. Good system?

Should a engine rebuild be done before the turbo, or will it be fine for a couple of pounds of boost.

Last question, 10 pounds of boost from the SC12 or 10 pounds of boost from a reasonable turbo, which makes more power?

I don't want to get into any arguments of costs.
Just want a good turbo setup, around the 140-150kw ATW mark.
Anything more than that, will probably cost too much.

theres plenty of turbo setups in the projects section, you should be able to glean some useful info from them.

150kw is easily achieved, and should be relatively affordable also.

im running a t25g (similar to t28), makes 125kw atw on 5psi and 168kw atw on 12psi. stock standard 4agze block+head, never been rebuilt. only thing thats a bit sad is the turbo now engine is going strong, but in saying that I haven't done 1000s of k's on it.

im running an internal wastegate and rx7 550cc injectors (straight bolt in - same plugs), link g3 ecu + link ignitor. everything else is standard.

That sound right? its about $12/1300 for the ECU, $700 to tune correct here?

Pretty much everything made for cars in australia is good, MoTeC ecus are no exception, the only annoying thing is that quite a few of the features seem to be optional, so make sure you're getting everything you want for your setup. $2000 seems like a pretty good price for ECU + tune, IMO.

Motec are as quite good,


and any ecu tuned by someone who is familar with them,
is better than
a better ECU tuned by someone who is not familiar with them.

so I'd say stick with what your tuner knows best,
and if it's motec that's good.

if the tuner is efficient with that ecu then buy that one, u want him to be working with gear that he knows.

Alright spoke to them on the phone.
The guy says hes done a similar turbo mod on a Suzuki Swift Gti, and reckons it will be much easier getting power out of the 4agze.
He quoted me roughly $6-7000 for everything. Turbo, inter-cooler, etc...tuned to roughly 150-170kw.
Personally I think that sounds quite reasonable, now all i'll need to do is go in the store and get that quote in writing.

He will be using a very similar system he did on a customers Swift Gti.
And that car made 140kw ATW.

Only problem he reckons could be space, especially because I want to keep the aircon.

Ohh and i'll make this clear. I can't do anything to help with the costs with the car. Im a cheque book modifier.

In that case you could ask to speak to the guy with the suzuki he did and ask him about how it went?

He may say the car is a sack of shyte and the guy wont help him out,
or
he may say the guy did a good job and sorted out all the bugs and was helpful.

As it'salot ofmoney to spend if you aren't clued up enough to knowwhen he's feeding you a line.

The car isn't a Suzuki Swift gti, I thought it was.
Its a late model Suzuki swift with a custom turbo mod, running 6psi of boost. Quite reliable for 2 years. He's more than happy with the results.

I'm actually very good friends with the owner of the car, and he recommended that particular garage.

Also a couple of Skyline and Silvia guys go there to get there upwards of 300KW done.
Although specializing in the V8's, they also do a lot of work for the 4cylinder imports.

I know for a fact that these guys are one of the best in Town.
Alot of my mates take their own cars there.

What happens from here, is I'll ask them to get a quote on all parts and email them to me. And we'll see what happens from there.

Just 2 days ago on Saturday, we had a FWD drag night here in Townsville.
Great fun, and I also got to race the Swift Turbo.
Thought it would be quicker, but his best run of the night was 16.6 sec quarter mile. This vid, was also my fastest run, a 15.5
The guys from the workshop were also there on the night to showcase, some of the 10 sec muscle cars. And thats what you hear in the background. Wished my car sounded like that

I've been giving all the wrong info about that car man. Sorry.
It actually makes 125kw at the wheels, and thats what he runs around on.
140kw, was when the boost was upped by quite a bit, but the owner didn't feel that the stock internals of a Swift could handle the power.

Im not too sure.
The next FWD drag night is on in 3 Months, so within that time, I want my car to be ready.
