Good Year GSD3 vs Bridgestone Potenza RE001 Adrenalin

Good Year GSD3 vs Bridgestone Potenza RE001 Adrenalin
RE001 is cheaper (~$15).
Which one is a better tyre in terms of dry/wet grip and lateral stability.
Noise/Comfort is not important.
Normally I am getting about 40k out of GSD3, and about 30k GSD3 seem to loose all the grip (about 3 mm of thread left). How long would RE001 last?

I wouldn't buy GSD3 anymore... they only sell the Chinese brands nowadays AFAIK.

PM THASHZ, he knows all about tyres, so should be able to let you know the pros and cons of both.

And yes, he does still come on here!

RE001 = awesome. I had some on my ITR, excellent dry grip, wet grip was great as well (especially in torrential rain trackday at Taupo) and they're an impressively progressive tyre, just seemed to be able to feel everything the car was doing.

Been on GSD3 F1s for a few years now there wet weather grip is real hard to beat good all-round tyre in the dry as well even hold up well on the track as well.Also have done proven pretty much unbeatable in the Wheels tyre test mags in Aus for the last 3 years they have been number 1 or 2.

The funny thing with my GSD3 F1s as I use a 285 wide on the back this was made in the U.S and my car is really planted in the back just doesn't move at all and my 255s in the front were made in Germany.So I've never had the above tyre made in Aus or China so I can't comment on that but the stuff made in the U.S and Germany is really good in the experiences I've had with them.

When first I got my GSD3 they were German, they performed the same until the last 1.5mm, awesome. Then second set was Australian, ok-ish but at last 3mm poor. Then the Chinese, something wrong with their compound as it does not perform as well as Australian (and a lot worse than German). Screw China.
So my option is getting either Chinese GSD3, or RE001 which I am not sure yet where it is made (I will have to ask).

ill be going bridgestones next time around

had aussie Gsd2's on my first Gt4 - never faulted them - they were epic for aussie roads- unbeatable in wet or dry

got the 3's on the new gt4 here - and sadly , nohere near the same levels of grip or confidence

They are4 still better than most tyres out there but not as good as what they used to be like , by a long shot

Have you looked at Dunlop sp sport maxx? They're in the same price range as the F1's & RE001. Got wheels magazine tyre of the year in '07. Last year went to the new F1 Asymmetric. Have yet to see any tests on the RE001 yet though.

RE001's are made in Japan.

Every review i've read on the GSD3 puts it at the top..........it destroys the S03 Potenza too so i doubt the lower end RE001 would beat the GSD3.

Only Michelin Sport tires seem to have the better of the GSD but you pay twice the money!! My 275 GSD's were made in the USA so I got lucky i guess - or maybe they only made the smaller sizes in China?? :?

GSD3 has now been superceded by the GSD3 F1 Asymetrical. No doubt this will be the tire to beat just like in the past.

Bridgestone's are over-rated............even their semi's cant compete with Dunlop or Advans.

Only problem with Asymmetric they don't come in my size or any normal car size that it.

Adrenalin RE-001 , will be better for dry roads and also for cornering , as the assymetric deisn gives a flatter footprint on the road and more corering stability , whereas the gsd3 will give better hold in the wet and much more control from hydro planeing , you will expect to get more kilometres out of the RE-001 hence why everyone is changing to assymetrics but once again this comes down to how often you rotate and balance and get your alignment and suspension checked . 8)

I swap/check tyres every 5000 (every service) I also check suspension and brakes at that time. I do wheel alignment once a year (unless I hit big pot hole).
I do about 40k out of GSD3s, what I don't like about GSD3 they tend to wander at higher speeds. I think RE001 would be a lot more stable under same conditions. I also think that hydroplaning resistance is out of windows once you worn out past where the outer slits are being connected to inner pattern (if you look at the GSD3 tread you will understand what I mean). I also think (gut feeling I suppose) that Chinese version is short cut and there is less active material and once you wear out past half way they are not as good even on dry, but I'll put that under my prejudice against Chinese products.
