blacktop died error code 14

my turn to ask now! unfortunately

the levin died this avo, cruising downhill i thought i heard some funny noises, looked at my speedo to see the engine check light on, i downshifted and as i did so the engine stalled and wouldnt restart. now, if i turn the ignition off, then back on and crank, itl fire then die, then itl just crank till i turn the ignition off again. throwing up error code 14 - ignition signal? anyone had experience with this problem on a blacktop before and have any info/instructions on where to look? thanks

I'd be starting with swapping for a known good ignitor and if no luck then perhaps dizzy but I think dizzy failure with Toyota's is pretty rare.
You're an auto sparky aye, maybe ask some of your colleagues?

they had all gone by the time i got it back to the workshop, and i checked out some books to do tests but all the plugs and stuff they specidied were different (older 4afe, not 4age) my 1st suspicion was the coil but i dnt relly no, was hoping someone had encountered the problem already so i could get a head start. i just want it to go, its only got to last another month....lol

Yeah, error 14 is the ignition code. I had that recently, my car would momentarily cut out when taking off, took all the plugs off the igniter, coil etc, blew them out, problem gone. However, I would say your problem was more serious! Remove the plugs, give them a clean etc, then if no change try another ignitor and coil, no change, try the dizzy.

I had an error 14 code on the GT4 when i got it - ended up being the ecu.

the plugs are new, installed them when i had the motor apart, leads arnt much older either.... so its gotta be coil dizzy ignitor or ecu. really hope its just the coil or something lol

Sounds like the same thing that happend to my silvertop. ignitor coil? ecu

what did it enf up being on your silvertop? i take it ecu

Yup. Had to change the igniter and coil to get it started though, but ecu was buggered ever since then.

hmm. went to it this morning, started fine, wich makes me think its a heat related issue as it died as it was getting warm
