Cert Issues (Rollcage)

Postby Tofu » Mon Mar 09, 2009 5:11 pm

Hey Chaps,

I have just acquired an AE86 which is having issues with the completion of its LVV Cert.

Because the car has a 6point MSNZ homoligated rollcage. I need to join a MotorsportNZ affiliated club and get a race licence in order for the cert plate to be dispatched to me. (It has passed the LVV Cert)

Is there any loop holes around this? I am not planning on using the car for any serious track outings other than perhaps the odd private track day etc but I do not want to pull out the grinder and cut it out just so I can get a cert plate.

Any ideas on what I can do? I do not want for fork out for a race licence and club membership if i'm not going to use it for that nature of racing

SOmeone will confirm but you need to join a car club (msns approved) and turn up to two events per year or something.

yep no loopholes about it. need to join an msnz affiliated club, acquire a motorsport authority card and logbook and enter at least 2 [msnz sanctioned] events a year

Cut the front half of the cage out. Put normal belts back in.

If you weren't going to use it for racing why did you buy a car with a full cage? Seems kind of pointless to me :?

Just join a car club, you might find that you more fun than you expecting to

i'd be weary about using a full caged car on the street  unless you wear a helmet everywhere you go

I just cannot justify having a full cage as it is getting turned back into a street car and will rarely see the track. Even if it does they will be only small private days. Not full on MSNZ Events etc.

I'll have a think about it anyways. May as well keep it then. I was just tossing up ideas.

so you bought a car that is race ready for 'gloat-factor', but don't want to justify the purchase by using for what it was modified for??? random.

probably cheaper to do a few event than try to return it to a raod car with full interior.............. and hell, you might learn a few tricks and and have some fun along the way!!!!

Most track day/sprint/dual car sprint with any MSNZ affiliated club qualifies as one of the two events.
You don't have to go full on circuit racing in a series or anything.
There is very little chance you will damage your car unless you go nuts and try drift and stuff. Most of the time you are racing by yourself or with one other guy. No contact.

Join a MSNZ affiliated car club. There are lots. Usually $60 or something a year.
Get a clubsport licence(You dont need a national race licence). Its like $100 something a year.
Then you can get a logbook for the car. Less than $100(I forget) and it lasts forever.
Enter some events, they will be in the club magazine. You get a stamp in the log book at scrutineering(where they make sure the wheels wont fall off and you have an extinguisher).

Leon can confirm or correct any of my mistakes.

I get the idea that you think msnz events are big deals with spectators and tv and big budgets and stuff.

Exactly,

a corrrectly organised skid around some cones in a car park will qualify if it's under the right permit.

Clubsport licence is $60
Car should have a logbook already if it has a homologated cage. If not $25 for a clubsport logbook should sort you out. Authority card $65 for first one, $45 thereafter.

Sounds like Tofu doesn't want to do anything under an MSNZ permit, so I still suggest cut the front half out, and just have a street car.

He'll sell it again in three months anyway
