It'd make the use of radar detectors close to useless as they would be going off all the time.

Maybe the cops don't think smartly.

too expensive (it has to be modulated in certain way, as good radars differentiate signals) , if they go this length, why not make a proper radar with a camera on every single pole?

I guess thats true, but at ~$20 per device last time I priced up the parts including labour (for a friend, to slow some racers down a particular street).

Maybe they could sell them in repco for people to put in their letterboxes or something.

hell, maybe I should... 8O

I read recently that the vans are still using ka band for them just a more shallow beam so less warning, but I have also found recently that my v1 has not gone off for a few vans but I would think that they may just be setting up etc, I am driving to aucks tomorrow so i will keep you posted and if I find one that does not give me a signal then I will stop and ask...they are just non sworn workers after all......

The speed cameras have always used a "shalllower" band of Ka than the eagle radars in cop cars. But my V1 has always given me plenty of warning.

Seemed to be from a pretty reliable source that they have gone back to K band.

Warwick, is it a strong K band response and how much warning are you getting more or less than the Ka versions?

I reprogrammed my V1 but havent been out on the road yet to see for myself. I left the K band mute on until four lights are exceeded to try and limit false alerts, so just want to make sure the K band signal from the camers will be strong enough to set it off.

i have a whistler, far from new, and far from top of the line, but it works very well in picking up KA band stuff

it picks up the K band speed cameras AS i pass them. ie no warning at all. iv noticed that along the joville-tawa motorway where they are always hiding behind banks, i will take more notice of warning next time i see one in plain sight in a suburb. certainly the warning given is far LESS than an automatic door

Hmm. I used to get KA as I drove past them but now I get nothing at all, even though all other K band stuff is picked up fine.

Damn Cobra.

3 speed cameras on the way to aucks, and the mighty v1 got them all on ka band......I am still on the fence with this and will be reluctant to put k band on until I get more info, I cant be assed with the falses, as at the mo if the v1 never falses

Just spoke to a mate last night his old man is a Senior sergeant and he confirmed new K band cameras plus the cops have new laser guns. Im waiting to find out if they have moved from 901nm beams. Im crossing fingers my jammers will still work else its time to go shopping again.

3W is way over the unlicenced transmit power limit... if you were found out there is serious fines(200k) and jail time.

cool little devices though... change everyone in your entire neighbourhoods channel at the same time for a laugh.

Hah, way off topic here but it reminds me of this little gadget:

Back on topic (ish) - Can anyone suggest somewhere to get a good deal on a V1 or equivalent detector? I've been meaning to get one for ages but never got round to it, figure since I'm driving around the country a lot for work these days it might be a good addition to the array of other things I carry around with me.

thats all good and well, except you will find that 9 times out of 10 it will be people without radar detectors that are hooning passed.

Wouldnt you want the infrared emitter to emit the same nm range as the gun?

Pity thsoe 850s dont come in 901nm way cheaper than a set of blinders....

If it makes that one in ten slow down though then its worth the money IMO, especially on my street, there is at least a crash a week, about 50% i attribute to speed (IMO) and there have been kids hit etc.

Exactly the same with my Bell. Gets a very weak K signal from vans within about 100m of them. Good thing I'm good at spotting them!
