AE111 Differences?

Postby Kittah » Thu Mar 12, 2009 9:24 am

Not quite as stupid as "What's the difference between the Trueno and Levin?" but probably not by much less

I've done a brief search but couldn't find anything useful tangled up in there, so I'm wondering if anyone could point out any noticeable differences in the different trims for the AE111; BZ-V, BZ-G and BZ-R. I assume they are, for the most part, cosmetic, but what are they?

Cheers :)

Engines are same imo.
Difference would be in gearboxes.
BZ-R is 6speed with LSD (got BZR "body kit"), I have seen a few BZ-Rs auto but that could of been fakes (but why?).
BZ-G is 5 (LSD optional?) or 6 speed (without LSD), or auto
BZ-V is either 5 speed LSD or auto (depending on year, although LSD could be optional as well).
I don't think any auto models had LSD (I might be wrong).

I've noticed the front bumpers are different, truenos have the bit between the head lights filled in, where the Levin's have a hole

As far as Im aware the BZR is factory upgraded to everything being "top" spec.

Where as with the BZG, you had all the options from factory.

So you could have a BZG the exact same spec as a BZR..

Right?

A while back I've posted a link to the sale catalogue of the Facelift AE111. Its in japanese, but it tells you the differences.

Before someone disagree with me again, please read the catalogue I've posted...THE INFO BELOW ONLY REFERS TO FACELIFT! I am aware that prefacelift BZG came in superstrut.

BZR facelift - superstrut LSD, red frabic trim etc. Recaro seats optional. Comes in Auto and 6spd Manual. I doubt auto will be LSD though - someone who reads good japanese please confirm. Front lip optional. standard with sideskirt and high spoiler.

BZG facelift - non-superstrut, came in steeles instead of the nice 15inch alloy that came with BZR. Comes in both 6spd and auto. both non-LSD. comes without sideskirt.

Trueno and Levin are exactly the same EXCEPT:
Front bumper
Headlights: Levin = silver back crystal headlights, Trueno = black back crystal headlights.
Rear lights: Levin = Red back with black strips, Trueno = Black back and no strips.

Not too sure about pre-facelift, couldn't find those catalogues.

Cheers for that guys, seems like it's not a hell of a lot for me to be concerned about, as long as I can get a non-superstrut model. LSDs can be swapped over between models relatively easily, I assume?

You should also be aware that superstrut models also have larger twin piston brakes (same as SW20 turbos).

I'm only used to Nissan brakes, so I don't know what cars have what brakes, but are there any other suitable cars you can take brake upgrades from, or is it better to get a Super Strut model and swap out the suspension for non-Super Strut? Or put Super Strut brakes onto a non-Super Strut car? :P

From what I've read it's a hassle in that it tends to wear out easily?

Yeah at like 130k or so. Something like 1000+ to do both sides. Then should get quite a few more km's out of it. I wouldnt let superstrut put you off buying an otherwise good car. How much cheaper would it be (if you cant do it your self) to change to non super strut anyways....IIRC there is quite a bit to doing the swap.

Screw that, Super Strut is great. Sure the turning circle is a bit average compared to non s/s, but the braking is awesome and they have a really good feel on the road. Plus to replace the parts that wear out is not really that spendy anymore.
