link computer tacko question

Postby fxgt race » Sat Mar 14, 2009 1:27 pm

Just upgraded the link and put waste spark setup on the car,the problem at the moment is we are using a mitsi ingniter that has a tacko output but becase it is runing two coils with the tacko pick up off one coil, correct me if im wrong, the tacko only reads 500rpm instead of 1000rpm on the dash,I think we are going to use a vr4 module on the coil, any other ideas otherwise i will get a dual channel ingiter from link.

Is this for your AE82? if so they have similar cluster to AE85/6's. If you can solder etc.. you wont have a problem, its just a matter of swapping a few resistors and a capacitor in the cluster itself. I have done it on my AE85 cluster running a 4agze and it works fine.

PM me your email address and I can send you the diagram.

if i am reading it properly you're only using one coil for your tacho feed?

the other option which i used was a mitsi tacho interface, which AFAIK converts the signal from the 2 coils into one for the tacho to read.

i have one spare if you need one.

Another option is this small circuit, which does essentially the same thing as a mitsi tacho interface.

Its like $2 of parts or something like that. Did it on my AE86 and it works mint, bit easier then modifying the cluster.

If I read your post correctly you are using the Mitsi igniter that has 7 pins,
instead of the usual 5 pin mitsi igniter.

They have the tach adapter built it, and you need to feed B+ (ign sw'd) to the BAT or B+ terminal to get the correct tacho signal out of the tach wire.

I use one of them, and they work fine.

EVO's have them and I think the VR4 ones are just the 5 wire with the external tach adapter.

pins

Postby fxgt race » Sat Mar 14, 2009 9:39 pm

yes it has 7 pins but its the dash tacko that is the problem,it will work with a single coil but not twin coil set up.I will check with me sparky as i don't know much about this stuff,he was going to see if he had a mitsi interface at home.

Thanks for all the options guys, will get it sorted and on the dyno for the nexted ss2000 round at mainfield in 2 weeks

If the dash tacho works with a single coil, like a normal old 4age,
then it will work fine off the tac terminal on the module as that's the signal it will put out.

when you talk module are you talking the ingiter or the module that goes on the coil to send out the correct siginal for the tacko.

if you have a g3 you can run the tacho straight off an aux output from the link, works in my ae92.

my 101 dash tach wont run from mitsi ignitor output, far as I know you have to remove a resistor or somthing in the dash to make that setup work?
