Blacktop ECU with silvertop

Postby headshotnz » Mon Mar 23, 2009 4:25 pm

Hey guys,

What modifications would be needed to run a blacktop ECU on a silvertop.

Reason for doing this is:

No more AFM, (i think, not fact, a pod filter will be louder?)

and i can run with no air filter and have some velocity stakers on the quads. (with obviously some type of filter over them.

So you can hear the 20v in all glory :D

Will the loom plug straight into the blacktop ECU?

Only modification i can think of is obviously running a map sensor.

Sorry if i sound a little bit out of knowledge, may have got every thing mixed up..

I have a 91 ae101 levin.

Cheers, James.

You can run them on the Blacktop ECU, but I have heard of problems with that setup. The motor sometimes runs too rich and splutters etc.
You need to get the MAP sensor and the air inlet temp sensor and wire in the new ECU. You also need to make sure the STA wire mod is done.
Try a search, as I think it has been covered before.

On another note, open quads are known to make the car slower than with the stock air box. The stock air box helps considerably with low to mid range grunt. So consider that before going down that route.

yep as above
i'd run it with stock intake with k&n panel filter. that will do fine until you go nuts with aftermarket ecu and major mods

Yeah i guess you guys are right.

Although im not bothered if it would be a little slower.
It's not like it's a fast car any way... lol

Ohwell, high flow panel filter was my 2nd option.

Will probably stick to fram, had a pod from fram on my ae100 5a-fe.... didnt go to bad considering you get to suck in all that ncie hot air..

I've tried most ways with my engine.

Filter trumpets sounded the best, by far... missed it a lot
It changed the power curve so badly that it would torque steer at times at 7k rpm 8O down low no one was home though, so was rubbish for around town. It felt fast higher in the revs, but this was due to being gutless in comparison down low.

Currently running a K&N filter in factory box and sure it doesn't sound cool, but it gives best power over the rev range.

I'd go with the panel filter, 98 octane fuel and check the oil level a LOT, I mean weekly. <-- Do these and you should have no problems.
