blacktops dont rev any higher. and yes when oil levels kept topped up, and under normal use then there isnt a problem with them.

Well, yeah they do, other 4AGE's factory redlines are 7200-7500 and BT's are 8000.

but whats the rev cut on them all

Silvertops are ~7700, Blacktops are 8200 IIRC. I think the 16v ones all cut at 7500? Smallport ones may be higher, I cant remember
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

i have to admit to never redlining a blacktop, all the ones i'v driven have been owned by some one else!

i still have to go read what fivebob posted so i wont comment further on the thread topic until i'v had a chance to digest that

they factory rev counters are also a bit inaccurate! both my smallport and silvertop would excede 8k rpm by the gauge

Could very definatly be the case.
I'm gonna hopefully put the diagnostics gear at tech on the adub tomorrow.
Might be a bit more accurate rpm reading there.

Those statements are mildly contradictory

We seem to have valve issues with sustained high revs more than rod issues on the blacktop in one of the race cars

Nah, closing up the gap. Stretchy valves and recessing into the head a bit as far as I know. All on the inlet side. They're going a little bit over the rpm Toyota would recommend though

I think they set it up for a cut at 9k. It hasn't done bearings or rods though :P

weird iv done 22k km on my blacktop with countless 95/9800rpm shifts... (rsm/link/dyno proven) had no issue... and still going as strong as the day of install.

Also used to have a blacktop that was push 9000rpm (on stock tach) never spat a thing used a little oil though.

I had my BZ-G for about five years and never had a problem with revving it out. I did a few tarmac sprints with it when posted on course down in Blenheim.
