ST185 CS/RC Bonnet/Bumper

Postby KE25-KP30 » Sat Mar 28, 2009 11:46 pm

Whereabouts does one look in NZ to find such items? What sort of money do they usually fetch, and finally, (perhaps shock-horror) has anyone seen (or even better, have photos) of the bonnet and bumper on a narrow body?

Cheers :D

Id expect if you can find it all second hand to be paying a fair swag of money, for new youd be paying alot more.. Problem is you need the VIN plate number or somthing in order to order it... Seems even toyota wanted to protect a st182 from looking like a st185rc..

Fish around on trademe from time to time you might be lucky enough to catch a rarity, If you buy new just make sure you can afford to paint it, Nothing worse than a half job using parts from such a fine car =D(not that im in favour of the car or anything)

dont need a vin plate, st185h is the model number.
check with the forum sponsor, i managed to sell a few bumpers and intakes quite cheap. problem is they may be discontinued..... and all the grilles etc are sold seperately, that soon adds up the cost.

by grills i also mean the bonnet scoop, it doesnt come with the bonnet

Im sure they ask for some number, but your right buying new = heaps of little parts to make 1 unit up as well as painting Very big $$

the bumper + grills + other littl;e bits for my "replica "Group A back im oz cost , in 2003 , about 800 dollars vith extra special love you long time toyota sponsorship love ..

I bought the last 2 bumpers left in Australia at the time and all the last grill pieces ..

It helps when toyotas technical department manager is interested in your project , when you dont own a genuine group A .

whats it going to go on , out of curiousity?

Hmm, didn't think about all the parts coming separately. I also thought that new from Toyota would cost an arm and a leg!

That's not a bad price classique71, same old "It's not what you know, but who" eh?

I think trademe and forums will be the answer for me seeing as i'm in no rush whatsoever. The other option is a CF replica bonnet. There seem to be a few kicking around on the net for not such a bad price.

It's (well, it would be) for a white "Rally" (No antenna, wind up windows etc) narrow body - which is why I wondered what they'd look like on a narrow body... :D

I bought a bumper skin and reinforcements (there's 2 of them) from Toyota around 2001, and IIRC the total was around $600-700. I looked into buying a bonnet but it was going to be $1900 for all the bits (theres a lot - raised washer nozzles, trailing edge spoiler, 3 vent inserts, 1 grill), but eventually I got one second hand for $500 - I was looking for probably a couple of years before I found it. I had them on a non-widebody but I had widebody guards on the front, looked pretty good IMO :)

Email our TS sponsor Mark, he hooked me up with my replacement one and i didnt even give him any numbers! Also got it for a mega awesome price, cheaper than what you'll pay 2nd hand.

But if you do need chassis numbers, PM me and ill give you mine :)

Hey that looks pretty good IMO, must be the rims :D Thanks boosted, do you by any chance still have the munted RC bumper off your current RC?

Stinger, would be awesome, but I'm guessing being a tidy genuine would fetch some good dough... I'll keep my eyes open for it - do try and hold onto it tho!!

$1900! Ouch, secondhand once again... sadly not exactly common-place tho as you found out! Bumper seems reasonable tho....

ok, good news is that I used to keep records of my spending on the Celica, so I know exactly how much the bumper cost. Bad news is that it was $1,143.70! I seem to remember the big reinforcement bar was about half of the cost. If you're not too hung up on getting genuine Toyota bits, you could get the reinforcement made for a couple hundred from a half-decent fabricator.

I'd look into getting composite replicas of the bonnet/bumper - I know they're available overseas, you might just be able to get them cheaper than buying from Toyota if you sea freight them, but it could be a lot of hassle.

Good news is these bumpers are still readily available.. 2 in the country even. And they are cheaper than you might expect

really? I thought the last one in the country was purchased by Ryan (Twolitre). That was many years ago, which presumably suggests Toyota bring in stocks of parts for cars 15 years after they were produced? That's good news because I know the NZ stock was significantly cheaper than what I (foolishly) paid for mine which came ex Japan for some reason.

they tend to do it on sales
if it sells a certain amount, and TMC still stock them, they bring some things in that would surprise a few ppl!

also annoyingly TNZ will list a part as discontinued when its still available ex japan... listing it discontinued is sometimes just their way of saying not to be bought for stock in nz. so you always have to ask!

Craig (boosted_162) got one last year and Toyota have since brought more in. They even keep a bumper reinforcement in stock!

Yeah it can be surprising what is (and isn't) still available. Just a pain to have to check
