Seperating GB and Motor

Anyone ever had to seperate the 2 of these when the bearings shat its self.. I cannot for the life of me seperate them.. The fork was jammed solid outwards i had to use a hammer to knock it free but i still cant get anywhere.. you can crank the motor, and turn the drive shafts manually these all have no effect on things.

Ive pryed and pryed it but nothing its as if the spline its self is engadged in some way and as a result wont allow it to budge..

Anyone had a simlar experiance where they got it off or do i just need to get a bulldozer between it?

what engine and box, dwells(locating engine and g/box) can rust in place making it harder to pull apart, sounds like ur missed a bolt or some thing tho.

What bearings?

And take the rest of the bolts out will help :P If its just on there tight you might have to hammer a screwdriver into an appropriate gap to start to get them apart

think hes talking about the release bearing or maby the spigot bearing. in either case there is no reason for the box to be jammed on.

as above check all bell housing bolts are removed  i have done this myself, sat there swearing my head off cos it wont come apart when there is one bolt that i have missed.

try levering evenly from both sides, if there is a dowel in there it may be caught if your trying to leaver it off from only one side.

haha top effort.
that shouldn't stop the box coming off thou, unless the center of the bearing is wedged between the pressure plate and the input shaft. but u should still be able to wriggle it out. try removing it straight back then drop it down and keep the bell housing as even with the block as possible.

without the powers to see into the darkness taht is my box im not sure wtf is going on, all the obvious stuff is done ive spent a good hour plus going over this situation i can assure you ALL bolts are undone.

The fork was stuck hard out (as if clutch peddel was been pressed ) i had to use a hammer to free it from where it was stuck and now its extreemly free (free as if there isnt a bearing in there at all :/) and i know there is no longer a bearing in its place beacuse i found a ball bearing lodged in the rubber boot that covers that very fork.

My issue is ive pryed and hit and shook the motor and box to free them but get nowhere (As if) there are still bolts holding it in place, my question is could anything else be causing things to be locked together remember i had to free the clutch fork so could that indicate the clutch place is locked on (or off depending how you wish to veiw things) and therefor causing the spline to be locked into place.

Im stuck naturally with a huge amount of money spent on my engine i dont want to be trashing it around to much like a pregnant whale.

stupid bearing :/

I cant see how the bearing can be holding it together,
unless it has passed through the clutch fingers,

as everything on the box side of the pressure plate should all come off together?

Hi Cliff, how is fatherhood going?

Your car... can you get enough room to undo the pressure plate bolts?

Had a similar problem when the tip of the gearbox input shaft got stuck in the pilot bearing and pulled it out of the crank! This meant that we were trying to pull the pilot bearing out through the middle of the clutch plate (too big to fit! Lots of levering and swearing and an hour or two got it free!

Your problems sounds similar but different.

Good luck.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

I thought that too, but was unsure if they have a spiggot bearing as most FWD's dont.?

and it would come out a wee way till the bearing got to the clutch plate and then would go real tight wouldn't it?

Just a thought..

How far apart is it coming if it is at all? I remember whenwe put the box on it we had to line the splines up and make them come together at about 10-15deg offset,. bringing them together and spinning to line dowells up and bringing together for the final mating of flange surfaces.
